I have to say that I dislike the scale.......even if it works for me, I dislike it. I have this thing about seeing the number that it says I am. Yeah, fear of the scale is silly, but I fear it for fear of being discouraged. That was me at the start of the journey and sometimes still me now.......it depends on what crap I had eaten before the jump on the scale though. We all have those pitfalls every now and then. SO, my solution? Even when I am just maintaining and not losing? I look at the little things. The little victories that I have gained in my journey.
For instance, I can walk up stairs without being winded......can tie my shoes without having to come up for air......and I can run for 30 minutes!! The newest one though is being able to bear crawl longer than I have been able to before!!
So, I ask you guys........what are your little non-scale victories?
I don't fear the scales and use them as sort of a motivator. As long as I see the scales either stay the same or move downward, I'm happy. But..... isn't there always a but? But, it's the time of the day I step on those scales I hate. There are so many factors that influence what the scales say, including the time of day. I have found my lowest weight is a 10 minute interval in the morning. I'm pretty much have a routine, 5 days a week and that 10 minute interval is in that routine. If I'm running behind, it affects what the scales say and I hate it. I can't even be 5 minutes early either. Dang!
So, you are very right, it's the little things that count. I week ago, I thought I won't make it back home on a 1/2 mile walk. By end of a week, I'm walking a full mile. Yes, the scales have moved, in a positive downward motion and that has helped. Now, to just keep recognizing those little things.
Best AnswerWell, when I first started out I knew that there was going to be a few downfalls ahead of me, in the past there always were. I'd go strong for a while and then lose momentum and didn't want that happening. I did everything I could to stay just as determined and motivated. I can certainly tell you that my gym was a God send.....every time I walk in there I get compliments and pats on the back. Its wonderful! I also had to write down how great I felt too in order to keep myself from backing down from exercise. Now its so ingrained in me that if I don't go, I don't feel like myself really.
Another part of that was I just didn't want to get discouraged and felt that the surest way to be discouraged was to see the number go up.....now its not SOOOOOO very perplexing, but still, I dont like to see the number.
Best AnswerI do not like the scale ! It's how the old clothes fit that tells me - inches lost !

Great accomplishment - feels good when the ole clothes are getting too baggy and what a feeling !

Clothes are my best non-scale victories. The day I realized I could take my jeans off without unsnapping them, I danced a jig! Then I took them to Salvation Army and went to the mall.
Best AnswerI must say that it is an outstanding feeling getting rid of old clothes to make room for newer, smaller ones!! I had to revamp my entire wardrobe and came away with two garbage bag fulls of clothes!! Can you imagine that?! TWO!!! I loved it though because I found clothes that I had kept for the longest time hoping at some point I'd be able to one day wear them. And I also found pants that were huge on me....I was a size 24 in pants and now down to 18!! WOOT!!
