I need to lose 30 lbs. and just got my fitbit yesterday, put it on today and did 1200 steps on my dusty treadmill. I need some encouragement to keep going. I am 64, had a stroke a year ago and lost part of my eyesight but the rest is fine. Quit my job of 10+ years in June because of the stress so now stay at home. Welcome anyone interested in keeping me motivated. TIA - Jane

Hi Jane - Glad to see you in the over 50 group. I am 71 and have used my fitbit for nearly 6 months. I applaud you for walking on a treadmill. It is so boring and it seems to take forever to get any steps to mount up even at 3 1/2 MPH. I would much rather walk outdoors - whether it is summer or winter. Now that you are retired you should have the Time to walk and get in as many steps as you like. I usually walk about 1 hour in the early morning and then another 30 min in the evening. Our town has a well maintained nature trail and it is a real pleasure. Deer, rabbits, squirrels, and a lovely creek with small boats anchored there. Other than that just my normal walking about the house, housework , and the yard keeps me on track to meet my daily goal. The days that I go to the grocery store or Walmart I can put on lots of extra steps. I usually park in the far corner of the parking lot. Don't push too hard. It took me 10 days to work myself up to 10,000 steps. Some days if I haven't met the goal I will go out late in the evening -10pm- and just walk back and forth on my street to finish my daily quota. I can see how people who still work have a hard time getting in the steps except on their days off. Keep up the good work.

Hi! I find the fitbit to be a real motivator. All of the steps add up, even if they don't make you sweat! I had my husband pacing in our upstairs hallway one night before retiring and I asked him if he was upset about something, he just laughed and said he wanted to make his daily goal of steps and was a few short! I also just recived my Fitbit Year in review. When it reported that I had walked almost 1400miles I almost fainted. I also have made my goal for this year to be 2000+ miles. This just shows you how all the liiiiiite trips add up, and I have my days filled with meetings where I sit most of the time. I don't always track my sleep, but that is also quite telling. On the nights I have a glass f wine with dinner I find I am more restless:( Good luck! I know you will love it!
