Hi,
We're considering getting a FitBit for our son, who needs to be more active and lose some pounds. Thoughts on introducing the concept to him?

How old is your son?
My daughter is 5, but recently was sent home wearing a pedometer. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about it (we are a very active family, she's played softball since she was 3), because I felt that the school was attempting to step on some lines.
However, after thinking about it a while, I truly think it's a great idea. Not only does it give educators an idea as to how active children are (compared to what they SHOULD be), but it also gave me an idea.
If your son is responsible enough to not ruin or lose the Fitbit, I would get him one. If for nothing else, it will give you true measurements on his activity, not leaving you to guess at how much he's actually doing.

Hi-Judy here. I grew up as a huge child. 6 feet tall and 220 lbs at 12 y/o. in the 50s and 60s. wow it was hard. Kids today love tech stuff. I think it could be a fitness event to your son rather than weight control. Forget the weight issue and concentrate on muscles, strength and agility. Just introduce him to fitness by watching you. I am a parent of 3 boys. I also found tyquando(sp) or karate. it is great for their self esteem and fitness. Be positive and overlook the weaknesses. Love those boys!!! Judy

My son just turned 7 and has been asking us for one. Mainly because he sees that my husband and I are obsessed and constantly talking about ours and competing.. If I trusted that it wouldn't fall off his wrist, I would totally get him one.

There are available fasteners to ensure the device won't fall off. Search for "fasteners for Fitbit" on Amazon and several will come up. Hope that helps!

Hey fellow lovers of fitbit products,
In order to ensure you that your device does not fall off unknowingly, you need to get a fastener on amazon as soon as possible just like @breezygrace has rightly said.
Hope this helps.

You could also take a measuring tape, wrap it around the kid's wrist. if it's 5.5"-6.3", you can buy the small one. Or the Zip which can clip to a kid's pants or the chest area.

Fitbit does not recommend trackers for anyone under 13. You can easily download a free app to count steps.
