Hi, I have a desk job also. I drive to work and spend most of the day sitting, I also have a very short lunch break so difficult to get out then too. Will be trying to take the stairs and walk to collegues desks instead of mailing. Hopefull that will all add up.

Hi all, I also spend a lot of time sat at a desk, I'd love to join in and see if we can help motivate each other.

Another desk worker here. I'm in a small office with a very close parking lot. I live in a rural area about 15km from my job, so walking to work or getting off a transit stop early and then walking is not possible. I've seen posts by people who rack up 50,000 steps a day by walking around the building before meetings, to the bottom floor and then back up when delivering files, etc. Since only myself and my boss work out of his home office, I'm sure he'd notice if I dissappeared for 15 min every hour for a walk. lol
I do get an hour for lunch, but I find that in winter it's tricky to convince myself to get out for a lunch walk/run: I don't have the mindset to face windchill to -30 C temps, ice covered sidewalks, and the like. The weather is taking a turn for the better so I hope to start getting out more.
If anyone would like to add me as a friend, please do so. I'm happy to motivate, support, congratulate and commiserate. I will not, however, provide support for psuedo-science, fad diets, fat burners or quick fixes. I'm mean like that.

Hi everyone, I was in tbe office for the day today and made an effort to take the stairs and walk as much as I could, when I got home I did some laps of the house ! I got 6500 steps done. Will have to think of longer routes around the office. Am on the road tomorrow so wil do very little at all I think. Most of the day will be in the car.

Good morning desk jockeys! I have the same problem of not getting in a whole lot of steps. I did 7600 yesterday - my highest yet (5 days). I did have a couple of meetings across the street and I walked around the block before I ate lunch. I always try to go down al least 2 floors for bathroom breaks. I am on the sixth floor and find that walking up all flights is difficult. I started walking up two or three flights and then walking to the other end of the building to walk up the remaining flights. I would love to have some like minded friends. Feel free to add me.

Had some awesome step counts on my days off. My food choices may not have been the best but we got out there and moved a little bit. My next 4 days at work are going to be a struggle. My other supervisor is out so who knows what fun and excitement is in store for me on this journey. I may be chained to my desk all week.

On the days when I know I will be stuck on the couch at the laptop all day I just keep my calories commensurately low. I love that my fitbit dashboard lets me know exactly how much or how little I can eat on a given day.

Today I had a few meetings at different places...I parked far away and made sure I took the stairs...it still only amounted to 7600 steps and 3 flights of stairs...but I guess that is better than some of my 3500 step days. Having a desk job is killing my numbers...I need to figure this out soon.

I have some tips!
1. Practice sitting up straight and ENGAGE those abs. You'll inprove posture too!
2. Obivously park farther away and walk, take the stairs
3. Stand up when you're on the phone
4. Sometimes when it's quiet I try and do just a qick ten dips using the arms of my chair and left my feet off the ground. I try this maybe 10 times in the day and I can get in 100
5. Squeeze your legs together; working thighs

I, too, have a desk job. I need motivation to keep my activity level up. I walk to meetings that are on the other end of the plant instead of riding golf carts like most people do but it is not that often. When I get home I hop on my exercise bike for thirty minutes to get my activity in. I started Saturday with the intention of doing it every day and so far I have done it. If I ever skip one day, I am lost, and it is difficult to get back on track. Please add me and we can motivate each other!

I'm another desk jockey and I also find it hard to get in my steps during the day. Each office I work in has all the parking close to the door, no stairs, ect. I also commute an hour each way to and from my job in addition to working long hours and I rarely get to take a lunch break. Plus, I have 3 small children at home which means that finding a spare moment to get in more walking is difficult.
However, this week I've started walking with a co-worker when I am able to take a lunch break (usually twice a week), and after work my husband and I have been loading up the stroller and walking with the kids around the lake at our local park a few nights a week. It helps, but it still feels like I'm not getting enough exercise in during the day.
I would love to find some friends for support, I lost 50 lbs prior to getting Fitbit and I'd like to lose another 50 over this next year.

I'm in Tech support (sit & stare) and I'm looking for other friends with desk jobs! I'm pretty new, less than a month in, first time really on the Message board. What do you set your goals at? I find weekends I can hit 10,000 or more (well at least now while the weather is good) but work days I'm lucky to get in 6500. Fellow Deskies, please send me a friend request

I work a desk job as well, and ordered my fitbit today. I have a pedometer I use that's built into my phone, but it's not super accurate as it only tracks when I have my phone with me. I would love to meet some friends to try to help keep me on track!

I'm working a desk job too. Been at it for nearing two years now after years on my feet all the time in retail. And, boy, can I tell my activity level went down. Looking for people to help give me the umph to get a few extra steps in the day and some suggestions on how to do it. I try to park far off, but our lot is all pretty close. I'd take the stairs, but 8 floors is a bit much for me at my current fitness level. I'll make it there, but right now... woo, I'm winded halfway up.
