Hello!
I bought a great book _The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet_ and it outlines a great lifestyle plan with all of the research behind why low carb diets work. It's not a /diet plan/ as much as a lifestyle plan and I've dropped 10 lbs this year. It's not a quick program, but it's highly effective at lowering your "set point" which is the amount of calories your body has become accustomed to consuming. The set point is key because even on weeks when my weight jumps up five or so pounds (like that awesome vacation in Costa Rica!) it quickly settles back to the lower set point. I encourage you to take a long range approach toward lowering the set point through a sustained program. Good luck!

My favorite low carb snack: celery sticks with cream cheese. The book I referenced has many good recipes for low carb meals, too. I forgot to mention that one of the cool things about the Carb Addict diet is that generally speaking, you have two low carb meals and then one "reward meal" that is whatever you want it to be (pasta, cookies, beer, whatever). The only caveat is that the reward meal (and beverages) must be consumed in a 60 minute window due to the insulin response created. In other words, I still have my whiskey after dinner and often a bowl of ice cream or cookies, so long as it is within the 60 minute window. It sounds weird, but the science behind it makes sense.
I say all this because I am pretty uncreative with meals/recipes because my wife is a great cook and enjoys planning awesome dinners. Breakfast for me is usually just cottage cheese and a handful of sunflower seeds or maybe two eggs with peppers. Lunch is usually lean deli meat with cheese and a huge salad that I prepare with cukes, spinach, radishes, green beans, celery, nuts, cauliflower-- whatever veggies are around. Sometimes lunch is leftovers, depending upon what dinner was the night before. I've tried lots of the recipes in the Carb Addicts book and most are pretty good or at least not terrible. There's also the Atkins Diet books and tons of recipes online. I'm just lazy (and lucky) because I don't usually plan the big daily meals.

go look at any of the various paleo sites and there's tons of recipes that are low carb (just stay away from the desserts). like others have said, i always keep eggs in the house. frying a couple up in a bit of bacon grease is quick and tasty. my breakfast during the work week is always one of 2 things: bulletproof coffee or an omlette (3 eggs, heavy cream, cheese and whatever meat i have in the house).
nomnompaleo.com is good. marksdailyapple.com is also good. some are complex, some are very easy. also, if you don't have a slow cooker, get one.

Hey there. I've been a low carber off an on for about three years and have found many great recipes here: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/ On the left-hand side, there are navigational menus for South Beach Diet phase one recipes, which contain no carbs, or general South Beach Diet recipes that contain little carbs. That's a wonderful website to find new ideas or create a shopping list.
Outside of looking for a site though, I've always found success when looking for low carb versions of foods I know I already like. Try googling for a food you're craving like "low carb pizza" or "low carb baked potato soup" and you'll find all kinds of recipes with alternatives.

1st I eliminated ALL candy, sweets, desserts, chips, crackers patries, cakes, cookies and almost all alcohol. My mantra was "Just say NO." I went Cold Turkey all the way. And Yesterday my husband and I completed an 8-week Paleo Challenge, eating meat, fish, eggs, vegetables and fruits, and just a few starches like sweet potatoes. I also have used Shakeology as a meal repkacement for breakfast or lunch every day, and done daily exercise for 20 minutes or more, and making sure my fitbit steps are always over 10,000. A strict program such as this guarantees your 20-pound weightloss, and you will feel GREAT, that's a promise.

I do the 5-2 diet. Two days in a row absolutey no carbs at all. The other five days what I normaly eat. I started at 330 lbs. I now weigh 270 lbs. I still have a long way to go, but it is a diet I can live with compared to many others that I could not stay with.

I love the paleo sites as well. One of my favorite paleo-ish (not all of her recipes are paleo) sites is Peace, Love and Low Carb:

Thanks so much for this great advice. I have eliminated sodas and sugary snacks from my diet and also purchased a fitbit for myself at Christmas. I've been clocking in 15 - 20,000 steps daily and am down 10.2 pounds so far. The fitbit really keeps me accountable.

For me, convenient snacks include mozzarella cheese sticks, nuts [pistachios, almonds, walnuts].
