Hi all,
Lost 3.4 lbs by morning of Mother's Day but had large dinner with lasagna that I didn't make or order but I ate it. This morning I shot back to 153 from 151.4. OK. Time to focus on new challenge now. Need to slim down in 2 weeks before my Alaskan cruise. The extra is on my apple belly so it is hard to miss in the mirror. Well enough said, focusing on no food after 8:30 pm.

Hey, hey take a minute to start off with us.
I am trying to do my taxes and dealing with wanting to distract myself again and again.
Dropped from 153 on Monday to 151.2 this morning!! Hey if I can prevent myself from eating after 8:30 pm I may break the 150 barrier. That will please me to weigh 140 something.
We can do this. I turn back on my hourly reminder to get 250 steps which gets me up out of my comfy chair.
Best to all you warriors,
Barbara

@dancefoxtrot and @Bobbinyc - I know you are bird people. This past week at work we had a Northern Flicker (looked it up) digging for ants right outside our office entrance which is all glass so we were able to watch her/him work. The next day three small wren/sparrow type birds hit the glass in the same area and dazed themselves. They were all together and hit one after the other. It took the last one over twenty minutes to take off again. Today there is a bird at the park across the street which has a very distinctive call that I have never heard before. Can't see the bird but it is very cool to listen to.
I love spring!

Hi All,
I've been so tired and sitting at my desk way too much. Motivation is lagging. Weight is stuck, but this time I may be contributing. I know not to count on motivation -it comes and goes. When I get a break later, I'm going to rework my schedule to include at least 1/2 hour of very active time daily, whether I feel like it or not.
Cele21, I'm so glad you are enjoying watching birds. Its very sad about the glass - huge numbers of birds are killed by the huge glass windows every year. A number of buildings here have coated the glass to be less reflective. And some people just tape things to the glass.
Barbara- I would love to hear more about your dancing. I live out my dance fantasies through you. And such great exercise!
ok guys. I am getting more determined just being here with you. We've got this!

GOAL WEIGHT BY 7/4/2019 - 140
Ooops! Gained 2 pounds since the Mother's Day challenge. Glad I saw this challenge.
This may be a little aggressive. 12 pounds in 6 weeks! I know a lot of weight loss strategies are to lose 2 pounds a week. I like to use the mini goal weight strategy of losing 2 pounds and then moving on to the next 2 pound loss. So, the loss could be in a week or take longer but the goal (MGW) is always 2 pounds for me. The MGW strategy of 2 pounds seems to work very well for me so I'm in and I'll give getting to 140 a try.
Good luck everyone.

Hey there. Glad that you joined us. You made such good progress in the last challenge.
When I lose 2 lbs I will dance a jig me thinks. Slide back a little but almost maintaining.
Fighting off a cold so I'm not being quite as active. I'm doing back taxes and that takes lots of sitting and patience. Also, I misplaced my Fitbit charger so none of my steps are being counted now since Friday night. Still aiming for UGW of 140 like you.
I think breaking into 149 will be motivating. All the best,
Barbara

Glad that you are enjoying the birds. We have flickers out here in CA too. They are beautiful. This morning I saw a ring neck dove, California Towhee and an acorn woodpecker while washing dishes. Of course, I had to grab my telephoto lens and snap a photo of the top of the pole with the electric wires and the woodpecker. It is raining and it's feathers were ruffled.
It is sad about the birds stunning themselves but wonderful that they all flew away eventually. Cele I don't know lots of the bird songs either. I think it calms and excites us both to take a few moments to notice nature. Website ebird.org or com to look up birds.
Bobbi so glad that you are making your health a priority and that 1/2 hour a day will be a blessing. You are such a supportive caring person and deserve personal care time.
Off to finish cleaning up my huge paper and clothes mess right now. Only 1 hour until company arrives, eek. Going to buy new charger for Fitbit if I don't find it today.
Hugs and encouragement coming your way. We can do this again like we did before.

Heading back in the right direction again. I have yet to meet a challenge goal weight so let's see if this is the one.
So sad, on Friday we had two more birds hit the window at work - the beautiful little wren didn't make it but I'm pretty sure he died instantly. The sparrow flew off immediately, landed, walked around a little dazed for a bit then flew off again. I think the windows reflect differently on overcast days and are causing this but in the four years we have been here this is the first time we have had this issue. With the weather being so out of sync and the birds hitting the window so much, I'm getting freaked out a bit. If the zombies arrive, I'm outta here!!!

LOL @Cele21 Run if the Zombies arrive at your window. I imagine that there aren't any shades to pull down to alter the reflection. Poor little wren. As Bobbi said some folks tape things to the windows to show there is something solid to run into.
Cele we support you getting back on track with eating healthy and exercising more. What is the biggest thing that sabotages you recently? For me it is eating late at night. I'm trying to go to bed by midnight now and don't always suceed. Also, I'm trying to just drink tea without caffeine after 8:30 pm. I hear my wiser internal voice say, "No more food, it is after 8:30 pm" and only listen sometimes. What would help you? I don't eat dessert almost all of the time. You have lost before so you know that you can do it! What did you do differently then? You are motivated to come here and set up this challenge so you have it in you. Once you start moving down you get motivated for more and you just started the downward trend. Do you think that you are stress eating? If so,can you walk or dance off some of the stress instead? Writing out solutions to the stressful situations in a journal helps too.
We are with you Warrior for Health,
Barbara

@dancefoxtrot good question! In the past couple years my left knee got really bad and I finally saw an orthopedist which resulted in a cortizone shot. Then about four months later I needed another one. I am trying to put off going again because I'm not sure I want to see the same doctor. He was great the first visit when hubby was with me but on the second visit he was more rushed and less careful with the shot which makes me suspicious that he doesn't take women as seriously as he does men. He also deals with a specific pharmacy that 'works with your insurance' so you only pay $10 if your insurance doesn't cover the drugs or zero if it does. Again, just not comfortable that everything is ok. So looking for another doctor.
In the meantime, around April my right knee started hurting too. Between trying not to become dependent on or take too much ibuprofen and hurting, my steps are way down. When I get home from work, I need to make dinner (or pick up fast food which is soooo much easier....) then after eating I don't get any activity, on the couch in front of the TV for the rest of the evening. A body at rest stays at rest but being up too long or standing too much puts pressure on the knees and causes them to lock up.
I know what I need to do which is decide to go back to the same doc or work on finding another and just go so I can move relatively pain free. When I don't hurt I get so much more movement - yard work, cleaning, going to the gym with my son, etc., and I also cook more which equals better nutrition.
I'm also putting it off until I pay off the current doctor bill. It's a vicious circle.
I told my hubby that I want to start doing some upper body, free weight exercises but again, haven't gotten up the gumption to start.
The weather doesn't help my knees or my sinuses either.
I feel the short answer to your question is: "Hello, my name is Celeste, and I'm a procrastinator."
05-21-2019 07:38
05-21-2019 07:38
@dancefoxtrot - I want to add that I know that for every pound of weight you lose you take four pounds of pressure off your knees so losing weight would help my knees. Again, vicious circle.

LOL about I'm a procrastinator. I finally just finished my taxes for 2016 and 2017. In the process I went back up to 153 but I plan to reverse that. I can now focus on finishing attendance rosters for my classes, cleaning up and getting my self packed to leave on my cruise to Alaska. Yeah!
Sorry to hear about your injured knees. My orthopedic doctor has given me injections of hylaronic acid into the knee capsule. It lasts about a year. It seems to help and is not a steroid. I would go to a new sports doc or orthopedic doctor. Hopefully they explain what is causing the pain.
I go to PT when my knees act up. It works to strengthen the muscles to support the knees. They often put me on the stationary bike to warm up. Can you bike instead of walking?
Okay if I can do taxes then you probably can do upper body at the gym.
Take care,
Barbara G

@dancefoxtrot I did look at the recumbent bikes at the gym but I can't bend my knees enough to get gracefully on them (vanity is a b###h). The weather here was gorgeous yesterday and hubby and I got a bunch of yard work done and today is....can you guess?....thunderstorms! Can't wait for more than one day in a row that is good.
On a brighter note, no more birds have hit the window at work.

Hi Guys,
Cele, what about PT? Its a great way to get active again, in a way that is good for you. I had been told the best workout for knee problems is no walking on hard surfaces, and the eliptical is easiest on the knees. And yes, as Barbara said, you have to strengthen and stretch the whole leg gently but consistently. When our muscles are out of whack, they pull on bones in a lopsided way, leading to more problems. I'd get another opinion too.
Good luck with that.

dancefoxtrot - Congrats on the taxes!!! Celebrate!! What an ordeal. I hope I never forget when we did them together - that was just wonderful.
When is Alaska? I hope to see lots of photos!

Someone on another thread pointed out that you can't wish away the pounds. NOW I know what I've been doing wrong! LOL!
But I can blame it all on the scale.....right?

Whew. That took me longer than I expected to lose the 2 pounds I gained from when the last challenge ended. So now I'm back where I started on Mother's Day! Still plugging along and have set my new MGW to 148. I will certainly be happy to be in the 140s.
Thanks @dancefoxtrot for all the encouragement. I too had a wicked cold that put me out of commission over the Memorial Day weekend. Bad news is there was very little exercise. Good news is I did not feel like eating. We can do this!

I didn't know it, but my fitbit hadn't synced since May 7. Oops. Here I was wearing it every day and although it's now synced, it's showing no steps for a few weeks. I guess I haven't been tracking and watching things. My weight has gone up a bit so I need to kick myself into action.
We are experiencing a very poor spring, weather-wise. It's been raining and cold. We had snow mid May, which is unusual. Just the other day was the first day my mom and I could go walking. Maybe again today.
I've been painting a lot, doing art work. We have a riverfront art event at the end of June and my family has booked a spot to display and sell our work. All my fav things to do require me to be on my butt, so I have to make a sincere effort to move more.
Anyway, I'm around. I'll check in more often and track stuff so I can get to work on myself more. Going to call my mom and see if we can go for a walk!
