I've tried this for several weeks for quick start diet plan. It worked wonderfull, however it is hard to stick with for long terms, worth it though!

What I find that works is to set my calorie goals, and then I go look for meals that will work in that calorie range. Making sure that I am eating lots of veggies, meat, fruit, and whole grains. I try and have as little processed food as possible. I enjoy making Saturday my gourmet meal as I use this day to eat at my maintenance (The Venus Factor).
As a diabetic, I have pretty much dumped the grains entirely, and fruit too, too much sugar and carbs which is what whacks weight on. but veggies and good fats... yay! eat enough, you dont get hungry. and you do lose weight (more slowly than on some diets, but it tends to stay off)
