First of all no one at the gym is going to laugh at you for being there. In fact anyone I see at the gym I admire and support. Regardless of their fitness level.
Every day for the last few months I see a guy walking at the park I walk at. I've lost 62 lbs, and I have no idea how much he is. Every time I see him, I simply nod my head to simply say, "Good to see , keep at it!"
So Frankly, the only one judging you is ... you.... Many of the people at the gym are just like you, or were like you. Trust me, if they see you giving it your all every day, they will respect and admire you.
Quite frankly, you are your own worst enemy. If you don't want to do it, you never will. My doctor told me I was going to be dead in 10 years. I decided then and there I wasn't going to let that happen, and I've dropped 62 lbs, with at least 36 more to go. And I will lose them. Not because it's easy or hard to do, or because of what people think, I did it simply because I chose to do it.
I get out there every day an exercise for 90-120 minutes a day. Yeah there are days I don't want to be out there, and there are days I can't wait to get out there.
But once you change your diet, and start a habit of exercise, it become second nature... It become normal.
But it all starts with a simple choice. I'm going to do it or I'm not.
If you want to do something about, then do it. It's that simple.

I've lost 35 pounds. I go to the Gym almost everyday. When I started I was very self conscious about how I looked and I felt like everyone was looking at me. Stick to it. The more you go the more these feelings will fade. Now I see a "core" of people who I say "Hi!" to as other people come and I never see them again.
One of them even turns the TV to Gunsmoke for us because he knows I like it.
As far as tricks:
I exercise as often as I can.
Track your calories. It takes a little effort but honestly I think tracking my calories has had the largest impact on my weight. I'm 11 pounds from my goal which I felt I would never reach when I started and I attribute it more to tracking calories than the actual Fitbit device.

I think its wonderful that you will go and try the gym.. let us know how you did. I promise you those who are there to work, don't have the energy to look at you or think about you. those that do aren't working hard enough and you should be judging them. remember also weightloss starts in the kitchen, so getting back into healthy food habits is just as important. much success in your journey!
