New Fitbit user looking to make friends

Hi, My name is Monica and I am new to fitbit. I just started using it this week. So far I have reached my second badge of over 15,000 steps a day and this is only my 3rd day. Not sure if that is good to others but for me it is huge. I suffer from a lot of injuries from an accident. For 5 years I haven't been able to exercise and thus put on a lot of weight. And though I still have a few more surgies I need to have. I made up my mind that I want to loose weight. My health depends on it. Plus, I have become so depressed and hate myself for what I look life. It would be really cool to meet some people that would like to be encouragment buddies and maybe accountability partners to keep each other going. I wont lie, this has been a very painful experience so far for me. I am in great pain trying to push myself. But I refuse to give up. I need to get this weight off. And right now I just need lots of encouragment. So if you want to be friends and add me, I would love the company during this journey 🙂

HAPPY TO!  It's only my third day and I have 50 lbs to use.  I'm doing between 12,000 and 14,000 so far and need some accountability as well!  I am struggling to be honest in logging my food:(

Hi Monica - I'm new around here too - I started Saturday. I also need to shed a ton of weight. It'd be nice to have some others around in the same boat!

I know what you mean. The food logging is probably the roughest for me too 😕

Hello Mookster!

Nice to meet you here. I'm pretty new as well. Fitbit has been wonderful so far. I use MyFitnessPal to log my food and it syncs with FitBit. I find that MyFitnessPal has a WAY bigger food selection and it's much easier to find the food I'm logging. Can you try that? It might help.

Good luck and I'm adding you now!

Sam

Hi Monica! Feel free to add me as a friend 🙂

I am new to Fitbit too. I don't really have weight to lose, so much as I don't feel like I'm in great shape (skinny-fat, I think they call it? LOL Very weak muscles, but lower weight). I am hoping this motivates me and helps me work out the muscle groups and increase endurance.

I used to run a lot, but had a couple bad sports accidents and tore a ligament quite badly on my left knee. It now hurts to run, so I am looking for other ways to get into better shape, but not be so hard on my body.

Anyway, welcome! 🙂

I would also like to be friends with you guys! I started with my Fitbit on Tuesday this week and I really love it. I want to use it to oust the sugary stuff from what I eat but I also want to get involved in challenges to move more. I use my fitness pal to log my food and it syncs with Fitbit very easily. I am 55 and I have a really sloppy figure which I would dearly love to shape up. I am really looking for some pals that would help to motivate me. I like to swim, walk my dog and would like to get back into running. I am just starting to do some resistance stuff today at the gym rather than focus on cardio. I am giving toning up a shot for the next couple of weeks to see how I go. I would love to hear back from any or all of you! With best wishes! D

Hi Monica,  I am also new here.  I've just started this week.  Great job on the number of steps!  I've realized that I workout hard, but don't take a lot of steps the rest of the day.  I'm just trying to lose the last several pounds that seem to hang on.

My fit bit just arrived in the mail yesterday afternoon.  I've linked in to my fitness pal.  I work full time and have 2 active kids, and it's hard to fit in consistent exercise time for me.  I'm hoping this might give me a little more motivation .  .  .  and the motivation to be disciplined to NOT eat the snacks for the kids that are in the hours.

15,000 steps is great, just keep on stepping! I got my fitbit on May 27th, and started using it that afternoon. I made my first 50 miles in seven days! I am using my iPod and purchased some new tunes to keep me motivated. 🙂 I too have 50 pounds to lose and have lost 4 pounds so far. My aim is 1.5 per week and I should meet my goal by January 2015. The food tracker is the best and if you want that extra treat, just add some extra steps. 🙂

Just log it an use the journal to track your mood, cause that can be a factor in staying on target. We both have the same goal! 50 pounds. Keep stepping my friend. 🙂

I like the food log, cause you can build your meals. I usually have a toasted english muffin, two tablespoons of peanut butter and a cup of 1% milk, so I made that a meal group and called in English muffin breakfast. Don't be afraid of the food tracker, that is what is going to keep you on target. Even if you go over your goal in a day, just keep on stepping, it will give you extra calories to consume.

This is my 2nd day using Fitbit and I really like it.  How do you sync My Fitness Pal and Fitbit? I've used MFP for years and know my way around it quite well.   I have a long way to go to my goal - 100lbs.  I had knee surgery 8 months ago and moved 4 weeks after surgery to The Netherlands.  It's been a tough recovery trying to do this on my own but DDPYOGA helped greatly. This is my time and I believe I now have the tools to succeed. I wish you all the best as we get moving and eating healthy every day - that is my lifetime goal.

I just started around here too. I started off tracking my food on my fitbit account but I need to be able to print a log so I switched to log on myfitnesspal.com, which is much easier. Myfitnesspal includes all the user added foods so when a newer product comes out you'll most likely find it already exists in the database and not have to manually enter all the information like here on fitbit.

edit to add: You can link your myfitnesspal and fitbit accounts. Your fitbit activity will show up on your myfitnespal account.   Also, you can link your fitbit account to the Walgreens rewards program to earn points you can spend on stuff in the store!
