New to Fitbit and struggling.

Hi all, my darling husband has bought me a Fitbit one as an early birthday present (well, I bought it lol). I absolutely love it but I am struggling 😕 I am a stay at home mum to a 4 yr old boy who is in the process of being diagnosed with ADHD and High functioning autism. I'm 28 (29 in 2 days) so not 'old' but I can't get my backside to move! I am so exhausted from looking after my son all day whilst he's bouncing off the walls and unfortunately I suffer from agoraphobia so don't tend to leave the house (only to take my son to nursery but it's the school holidays here). My best steps so far is 2.5k 😕 I only actually have approx 20lbs to lose but I want to be fitter too. Any advice would be more than welcome and friendships too of course 🙂 Thank you for reading x

Bless you and your little boy 🙂  I have a son who is ADHD and he is now being evaluated for ASD (autism spetrum disorder) so I feel for you both.  Is there something interactive that you can find to do in the house that maybe involves your son?  If you can get him engaged (even in a game of hide and seek) that may be able to help you both. Lets him run out some energy and you get a bit more movement in?  Even little laps around the interior of the house can be helpful and you could make it into a game to involve your son too, going on safari through the house (you could tape animal pictures on the walls here and there to spot) or even a game of eye spy utilizing existing pictures.  This could help you get moving and engage your son in some attention strengthening activities.  Have a movie day and "walk the red carpet" while getting chased by the paparazi before relaxing with your/his favorite film.  If you have stairs even a few trips up and down will add to your step count.  If you can just manage to add 500 more steps here and there I'm sure you will see a difference after a while, and I'm sure it will help motivate you to get more.

Thank you so much for responding 🙂 I try to be a nutter with him to burn him out and get me up to count but I am just sooo tired! I'm going to try some of the things you've said and see how we get on. Thanks again 🙂 x

Just remember, it's unrealistic to go from not excercising to running marathons.  We all have to crawl before we walk... so even if your goal is to have 25 steps more today than yesterday, it's still improving.

I've had a few years of barely leaving the house due to depression and weight problems I'm old ishhhWoman Indifferentand childless so I have nothing to stop me getting out apart from my laziness which is a major part of me. Woman Embarassed I got my fitbit last week and it is hard getting the steps in. I have tried wii fit, leslie sansone on you tube and walking outside.

20lbs...achievable even with your constraints!

 

Park of the key will be adjusting what you eat.  Simply changing your foods can have dramatic effect on your overall body with even just limited additional exercises (and we can come up with some that even your 4 yr old should enjoy doing with you!).

 

Food, sleep, hydration then exercise for health in that order.  And getting to your ideal size/shape/weight through lifestyle change will be sustainable, and avoid the usual yo-yo that is 'on a diet'/'off a diet' induced.

 

So offering up to read through some of what a typical day's foods look like for you....

I am the mom of 10 year old twins (one of each) who were born prematurely and single son who is 7.  My 10  year old son has ADHD, ODD, PDD, Severe Anxiety, and Asperger's.  I know the feeling. However, since he has so much of his energy, enjoy "bouncing" together.  You could jump rope in the house (without the actual rope of course), free hand weights find something appropriate for him
, run in place, jumping jacks, yoga, videos, the list is endless whilst inside your home.  And the burnoff of the excess ADHD will help calm your son and also provide him much needed sensory integration from the jumping.  It will actually help calm him in the long run.

YES!! Adapt! Adjust! Overcome!  Find what works and you can do stuff with little/no cost!!!  Getting kiddos involved would be a score too!
