Nursing

Hi

I am exclusively breastfeeding my young baby and I'm not sure if my fitbit flex automatically adjusts my calorie allowance and burn estimation??

I have ticked the nursing box, but as a new user I'm just not sure!

Thanks everyone!

You can always add the nursing as an activity.

Here is a thread another nursing mother started. You might want to reach out to her to see how she's handling things.

Where do you find the nursing box to click??

I ended up just adding 500 calories to my daily allowance.

OK, I found where to add that I'm nursing, but as far as calories go, is it taking that into account?

It says I need to take in 1400, I'm 5'5 190lbs...does that sound about right to lose weight but not affect nursing?

Thank you for the help in advance!

I know this is older, but I thought I would share my experience with accounting for nursing.

My first bit of advice is that if you are within the first 12 weeks of breastfeeding, DO NOT restrict your calories. The first 12 weeks are essential to establishing milk supply, and not eating enough can cause supply problems in the long run.

Second, calculate your BMR. What I need to eat and what you  need to eat can be drastically different. There's not "one size fits all" calorie number. You can calculate your BMR here: http://www.younglifenorthdekalb.com/fitness/bmr_meal_calculator.php

THEN, add 300-500 calories on to that number to account for what is needed to produce breast milk.

While I love Fitbit, thier food tracking platform isn't my favorite. I love the LoseIt app (and many others like MyFitnessPal). You can sync your Fitbit directly with the app, adjust your caloric goal, and it gives you a clear picture of daily calories eaten and when you've burned extra calories based on your Fitbit activity. It allowed me to add in my extra 400 calories for breastfeeding, and with those apps, I successfully lost and kept off the 35lbs of baby weight I wanted to lose.

Good luck!

So, I am not seeing the nursing/breastfeeding and pregnancy status in my fitbit blaze dashboard. Have this feature/function been finally removed in the dashboard or are you guys still working on this?
