Oils to cook

Hi everyone!

Hoping you are doing great.

While I was buying groceries, I came through the cooking oil aisle. I noticed that there are a lot of kinds of oil to cook.

I normally use vegetable oil to fry things as it is a more flavour neutral .

And for dressing or give a bit of a flavour I use olive oil. And for asian food a few drops of sesame oil.

All this based on flavour.

I've used the classics (canola, Sunflower, corn, etc), but am curios about those more exotic e.g. Cashew oil, Avocado oil, Grapeseed oil, etc.

There are a lot of information out there on how good, better or worst a kind of oil can be.

But I want to learn from actually users' experiences.

What oil do you rater use? Why? Flavour, fitness, health?

Do you have a suggestion to try?

Any recipe?

Please feel free to share your thoughts!

Good evening JuanFitbit,

I have simplified my life by only using olive and avocado oils for cooking and seasoning and sesame oil to perfume an Asian inspired recipe. Olive oils come in different flavors... taste them to pick ones that fit with your preferred flavors.

@InkedPeonies  You are right about the many flavours you can find on olive oil! I'm a big fan and whenever possible I try different to get different kind of olive oils.

You mentioned the avocado oil, how flavour neutral is it?  I'm curious!

You already mentioned you use olive oil and vegetable oil. I use mostly olive oil for its health benefits. I don't know if this will be helpful to anyone but I found a nifty tip in using a spritzer bottle with any kind of oil. Works great in place of cooking sprays and keeps calories down by using less on foods you would use the oil for. Awesome for air fryers too.

@SunsetRunner Thank you for sharing your tips.

That is a good idea about the spritzer bottle. I've thought about it but have never tried it. Every time I cook I tell myself to get of those sprayers, but when I'm shopping I forget about it.

Please keep sharing your tips and ideas

The one I use I found on Amazon. It's glass so keeps the oil tasting great. Also has markings on the side for ml so you can keep track of calories per ml. I feel like I need to apologize though since this thread wasn't really about how to use oil, but what oil we use. Just thought it was a good tip so threw it out there.

@SunsetRunner Thank you for the tip on Amazon. I'm kind of old school when it goes about shopping. The only things that I order online are things that are not available on the local stores. But will write a reminder to get the sprayer on my next shopping trip.

No need to apologize. The thread was about oils in general. And your tips go very well on this.
Not only the kind of oil you use is important but how to use it also.

We are here to get inspire, ideas or share what has been useful to us.
