Post Thanks Giving Weight Loss

My weight creeps up on me even though, I am very active. I am preparing for a Marathon in March 2017 but my weight still sneaks up on me.  The Holiday Season is hard.  So I have a drastic strategy which is not ideal for everyone.  I start with a Water Fast (no food or drink, except water) for three days or more. I don't mind the water fast, it is simple you just don't eat. This puts my metabolism into Ketosis (fat burning) then I shift to an Atkins diet (High Protien, low sugar, low carbs) which seems to work, I burn about 1 LB hopefully of fat per day. Eventually I get bored of Japanese Sashimi, Egg Whites and Chicken.  I do enjoy seeing how well I am doing at my Ketogenic level with Ketosis Test scripts and my scale.  Being able to monitor daily keeps me on course.   Clearly this is not for everyone but it help me reset my weight and then manage it better.

Whatever floats your boat. Every one starts developing their own method of weight loss if they've been at it long enough. Remember being 5lb heavier the next day don't mean you are fatter. When you should start making changes is when your clothes are getting tight.

I ain't no expert but why would you be on a low carb diet while training for a marathon? Marathon training is hard. I heard marathon trainers run up to 10 miles daily. Losing weight and low carb should be the least concern of anyone training for a marathon. Training for 10 miles a day you should be eating way more calories so you won't burn out. This is just what I think. I am no expert.

Being in ketosis means fat is used as the primary fuel for your activity (normally, it’s carbs). Whether you’re actually losing fat requires you’re in a caloric deficit. If/when you are in a deficit, fat from your fat stores will be oxydized, regardless of the type of diet you are eating. There is nothing magical in a ketogenic diet, or any other diet. Losing 1 pound of body fat per day would only happen in a fairy tail.

Now, what kind of weight are we talking about, and what is your running history? Have you run marathons before?

Thanks for your comment.   Using the Meal Log on fitbit is helping alot.  Also, I am just doing this to get a head start on the "Christmas Calorie Seaon", not a long term plan.  Though my odd plan seems to be working (day 7) my body fat is down 2% and weight down too.  Having done water fasts in the past, I get your point about a bounce up, but keeping my calories down hopefully will limit how much a of re-gain evect.   Frustrating that the human metabolism always wants to store fat.

Thanks for your commment. I have run 15 marathons over 10 years. Of course you are correct about Calories in /Calories out. Using the Fibit Food Log to monitor that which is working to keep me on track. This is not a life plan just a 2 week, maintenance diet. Running in Ketosis(per the ketone strips), is harder. I am down about 10 lbs so far and getting good resulst with my % of body fat. Hopefully my body isn't digesting my muscle mass.
