There are sugar free ones, but I'd be wary to try them, artifical sweetners aren't for me.

See this thread for the difference between hydrolyzed (100%), isolate (90%) and concentrate (80%).

I agree - artificial sweeteners are really not good, at least based on what I have seen, and I don't really like the taste, either.

I've thought about this topic many times. You mention the best that doesn't have sugar - and most of the reviews I've come across don't address sugar, but the quality of the protein.

Some powders have 25 grams "per scoop" and others have 15, or 30. But sometimes, the scoops are different sizes (although, generally they're a 1/3 of a cup) so it's really tough to do a comparison.

On YouTube, BestpriceNutrition has some very thorough explanations - mind you- they do sell the stuff, but they do suggest to avoid certain things, and admit that some things are meant for some people, but not others.

In my opinion, for the money, it's hard to beat Body Fortress, 15.98 for a 2 pound tub. It only has 7 grams of carb, so it certainly isn't loaded with sugar.

There are protein powders that don't have anything (or sugar) added - I've found some at Big Lots, but it's expensive, that's for sure. I haven't tasted those, though.

I work in pharmacy at a hospital where weight loss procedures are performed, and we sell UNJURY products. UNJURY is a great product that us staff members use on a regular basis for ourselves. Less fillers and crap in it. Its a medical grade protein powder, and you can tell a difference when you use it. The taste is adequate, nothing to write home about, but the quality surpasses all other protein powders. Sure, it costs slightly more than the crap at retail stores, but you use less of it, because there is less fillers. Check it out online or send me a message if you want to know more.

I use Unjury on a daily basis. It is whey protein isolate. 1 scoop is 21g of protein, 0g fat, 3g carbs, 2g sugar. I mix 1 scoop with 8 oz fat free milk. I have tried some of the protein powders from GNC and other places and always come back to Unjury. i find it is one of the best tasting, not gritty powders and works the best for me. Some of the other brands use a whey protein concentrate or soy protein. Those don't work for me at all.. Unjury also has  a PDCAAS score of 100.

After years of using Body Fortress Protein powders and wondering why I felt pretty crummy after drinking the smoothies I made (headache, bloating, nausea, etc), I realized I had a reaction to the whey protein. And I am in no way lactose intolerant or anything. So after a bit of research, I switched to plant based protein powders, namely Pea Protein, and feel FABULOUS after having my morning smoothie!! And I don't have hunger pains until 4-5 hrs later. The carbs are very low, so very minimal sugars added. I am diabetic and these smoothies really help my blood sugars stay low. Good luck! Don't let all the information overwhelm you too much!

Isolate is 90% protein, as noted above. Indeed, their unflavored product contains 21 g per scoop of 24 g. Here is what the label looks like (from their site):

Unjury, unflavored

21 g out of 24 g is 87.5%, close enough.

However, if you look at their flavored products, eg. chocolate, you'll find that it's 21 g of protein per scoop of 27 g. This is only 77.8% and would qualify as concentrate rather than isolate in my books. Or am I missing something? Besides, it also includes fructose, aspartame and other items of dubious value (IMO):

Unjury, chocolate

I agree with some of the other ingredients in the flavored powders, but when compaired to other 100% Whey Protein powders out on the market, there are a lot less ingredients in the Unjury. For gastric bypass patients, the highest quality and best absorbing protein is Whey Protein isolate. We do not absorb the concentrates (which are a combination of different protein sources) or soy proteins like others. I have tried a lot of the other protein powders out on the market, and my body does the best with Unjury.
