Hey guys! I've had my Fitbit since December and am trying to lose my final 15 to 20 pounds. I'm extremely consistent with my activity --- I almost always get between 18K to 20K steps per day, and my calorie goal for weight loss is around 1500 to 1600 calories. I'm usually a little bit under at 1400 calories.
I've noticed that occasionally (maybe 2 to 3 times per month), Fitbit will give me an astronomically high calorie intake. Today, for example, it is recommending that I consume 2800 calories. Why is this? I obviously know better than to eat this amount and just stick to my normal 1400 calories. I have the calorie estimation setting disabled, for what it's worth.

"this is a test...this is only a test...to see if you're paying attention..."....
🙂
Seriously though, I don't know. But good on you for staying on track!!! You got this!!!

Did you look at your Activity Log to see why it thought you burned so much?
I mean, that's why your eating goal goes up right, because you burned more.
If you didn't do some big workout, then look at what it saw you doing to figure out what went wrong.
Perhaps your dog got your Fitbit and spent an hour shaking it around when you were napping, and you'll see steps and calorie burn in your daily graph for a time you know you were sleeping.
Oh yeah, with so little left to lose - have your made your deficit amount reasonable for that smaller amount now?
You are down to 500 cal deficit if decent amount of activity/exercise, probably 250 otherwise.

Thanks for the response, Heybales! There was definitely no increase in activity today to account for a 1400 calorie increase in caloric intake. The total number of steps has been the same all week long. I know my Fitbit is tracking correctly because I'm crazy and actually wear two pedometers (Fitbit and Striiv), and the daily totals are usually within 500 steps of each other. I should add that the Fitbit is saying that I burned 2200 today (which is normal for me), and yet it is still advising me to consume nearly 3000 calories.
As far as the remaining weight to lose, I'm pretty sure I have a nice deficit because I'm losing about 2 pounds per week --- probably not safe to lose it any more quickly. 🙂 The 20K steps per day also helps, I'm sure.
Thanks again!

In that case, I'd check your goals are still correct. Just in case your phone with app were in the hands of someone changing things accidentally.
Then chalk it up to glitch, if it doesn't happen again. Very odd.

@disneybruin , I've been having the same issue with the fitbit app lately. Random days will tell me to eat 700-1000 calories more than I should, even with my activity level being nearly identical each day. It usually occurs in the evening (after dinner).
I think it's just a bug in the app.

@SophieSue That's when it happens to me, as well! It's annoying! Oh well. 🙂

Definitely a bug in the app. If you have an iphone, double tap the home button then swipe up on the app. That will shut the app down and when you open it again, and resync your device, it should have the accurate number. Mine does the same thing.
