Twenty-two years old and 5'3". I started the year out weighing 166.8lbs (My highest weight gain), with dieting and starting working out at the gym I lost 7.4lbs in 25 days. However, I have seen a differcene in pretty much all areas of my body except for my stubborn belly fat, i.e my mid-section. Does anyone else suffer with this issue? How do you overcome it? Tips and advice is MUCH appericated. My current weight goal is 125lbs. I am getting to the point where I am getting unmotivated, which is not something I want to do!
THANKS IN ADVANCE :))

Hi, Hannah - 51 years old here, almost the same numbers, though, lol. I'm also struggling with belly fat. My daughter (graduating with a degree in exercise physiology this spring) says to stay the course - the belly fat is the last to go. She's always reminding me that the belly fat did not appear in two months and it won't dis-appear that fast, either! She says I should keep working out and eat clean - making sure I'm eating enough (of the right stuff) so that I don't put myself in "starvation/survival" mode - I've been guilty of that for the past three decades, so I've got a bit of "resetting" to do.
Good luck & hang in there!

You cannot "spot-reduce". You need to lower your overall body fat and hope your body will be nice enough to take the fat from where you want it to. It could just as well start with your breast.

What is needed, is aerobic exercise (fast walking, jogging or running, etc.) until your body starts to burn body fat reserves, which is after about 20 to 30 minutes. As mention already, fat is stored first around the middle, and that's the last place it will be removed from.

It can depend on the food eaten, eating more natural whole unprocessed foods like fruits (banana's, apples,..), more fresh vegetables at dinner (50%).. makes feeling satisfied for longer while consuming less calories overall but the body has all nutritients it needs.
Consuming prepackaged foods in moderation but eating nutritient rich food first. Automaticly eating less overall.
When eating pizza, cookies,.. it's possible to eat up to 3000 or more calories, while still being hungry 'cause the body wants nutritients to function optimally. It's also about the quality of the foods eaten that counts, not neccesary the total calories.
Pizza, cookies,.. also contains more calories overall, while possible to eat such food in moderation, and eat only when feeling there's still a bit of space left to eat it with joy, for the taste, allow to have otherwise it leads to a craving to eat as much as possible from at the next opportunity.
When following a food plan, it's a guidance, it's still possible to over eat. Eat until feeling satisfied but not stuffed.. and try not eating more when not truely hungry. It's always possible to eat when feeling hungry.
The body when getting back more in tune, it guides what it needs to eat, and how much. Telling when it has enough.
Eat smaller portions throughout the day to stay satisfied, instead of having for example 3 large meals, when getting alot hungry, less healthy choices can be made, portion sizes may be bigger than what the body truly needs. When not so hungry, take a smaller plate instead. Eating slowly, but being aware what you are eating/drinking, enjoying the food / taste..
When not sure being hungry or not, stop eating and wait about 20 minutes.. (it takes this long so the brain gets the signal when eaten enough) (can be about 10 minutes when being at a healthy weight range).. when getting hungry or a craving to eat a bit more.
Notice what your body desires instead of the mind,
When eating, try ask yourself:
When the food plan says to eat x hundred calories more, but the body feeling satisfied, it means it has all nutritients it needs, regardless having eaten less calories.
When getting a craving for a certain food, it may be for the nutritients it contains.
Allow to have any food without restrictions, but in moderation. Eating the food or having a certain drink in the moment, you / your body desires, it satisfies the body quicker then eating something else first (but not truly want it) just to eat something and then still having the food the body desired to have first.. this also can lead to eat more calories in the long run.
The body strives to be at a certain weight range, it does everything it can to revert to this weight range when trying honoring the body what it needs, and not eating more food (to stuff ourself), not eating out of lonelyness, boredom, but to nourish it. Eating everything we like, but stop when feeling satisfied.
This weight range is determined by genetics, food choices, activity. When eating more natural unprocessed food which contains plenty of nutritient's, the body wants to have these food more, while there can still be a craving for a certain cookie,.. allow to have with care (since most cookies quickly contain plenty of calories like 100 calories (eat 5 and that's quickly 500 calories) (have one or two instead) but it's going to ask for the nutritient filling food more.
Even when allowing once in a while ourself to have a piece of cake at a birthday,.. but being aware about when eating just for pleasure / the taste.. instead of being hungry. The body will make up for it, by eating for example a bit less the next day since it wants to revert / maintain the weight range it's most happy it.
Everyone is unique, where the body uses / or stores temporary body fat first from is differently.
Be patient, keep making healthy decisions. Never give up.
Have Fun!

So you have a sure-fire method for losing belly fat and you are not wishing to share it with the rest of us? That's not nice.

Are you working the muscles in the midsection, in addition to whatever other exercises you've chosen to do?
It may just be that your belly fat will be the last to go, but doing core work (yoga, pilates, etc) will help tone the muscles there and you'll eventually get to see them 🙂 .

Body Fat and Muscle Tone, are completely different things.
To get rid of Body Fat, you need to go short on Calories (less food and/or more activity).
To get more Muscle Size, you need resistance training (weights, etc.)
To get more Muscle Tone, you need to do repetitive exercise.
Even with "core work", the toned muscle will still be hidden under the fat.
