Tired

I have been being diligent to diet, workout routine, etc for the last six weeks (until a couple days ago anyway). I have been losing a pound a week which is awesome and I'm elated at that success. However I'm beyond exhausted. I fall asleep in the middle of the day, am out by 9 or 9:30 at night and sleep till at least 6:30 when my alarm usually goes off. I walk through the day sluggish and just in general have no energy. I suppose I should also add I have twins who are about to be three. Anyway two days ago I went off my diet, workout plan, been a bit of a slug and eaten what I wanted...guess what? I have energy I'm back to my normal self. I love the weight loss but I'm tired of being...tired! Anybody else relate and give me tips? I thought losing weight and eating right was supposed to give you energy not drain you of it!

Tired with twins - I would imagine anyone would be tired! Don't be too hard on yourself. Six weeks of diligence has paid off, so a few days of being a slug hasn't hurt you. In fact, taking some time off has made you feel more your normal self.

Changing your lifestyle takes time to get used to and you already have your hands full with the twins and life. Maybe ease up a little since you need that energy to stay on top of things.

A friend told me that we should always reserve one day to be lazy or to skip something we're doing, such as a diet or exercise. That way, we can keep going for six days, knowing that seventh we can let up a bit, enjoy a cookie or an afternoon movie, something that is a treat.

You're doing great, mw1099. Just give yourself permission to be human and to take the occasional day off!

You may also want to look at the details of your diet. Are you getting enough protein? Do you have snacks scheduled? Some of us (myself included), need to make sure we get protein with each meal and with each snack in order to keep energy levels up and sugar levels ... level. Snacks can be as simple as a small handful of walnuts or almonds. A small spoonful of peanut butter can add protein to any meal. My breakfast is normally an apple or orange and a spoonful of peanut butter.

Good luck!

@SunsetRunner is absolutely right, WHAT you eat is as important (if not more) than HOW MUCH you eat.

If you eat a lot of processed food, you won't feel as good if you eat nutrient dense good foods.  Also, some people have different tolerances for certain foods -- I can't eat tree nuts nor peanuts due to allergies and as for protein/fats, I don't get as much benefit from beef as I can from chicken and turkey.  Beef makes me feel sluggish and I don't digest it right... so I try to stick with chicken and turkey.

Eating more often throughout the day is also better than 2 or 3 meals a day.  We have all heard it's best to eat 6 small "meals" rather than 3 larger ones.  If nothing else, this just helps keep things like blood sugar up.  If my blood sugar gets low, I tend to get either tired or wirey depending on stress levels and other factors.
