Trying the Keto diet...

I need to drop as much weight as possible by July 27!  I know weight loss is a life style change and if not treated as such, old habits will creep back in...   But, I have a pretty important event coming up that I want to look good for...  I am a children's book author and I am being hosted by The Museum of Chincoteague Island and I need to drop a few pounds quickly...   Anyone else try the keto diet?   I know it is not a diet for prolonged use, and that veggies and lean protein need to be the premise of my daily eating, along with minimal fruits...But if anyone has had significant success, I sure would love to hear from you!  Thanks!

I've not tried the Keto diet, but my daughter and her husband are on it now. They have both had a good level of success. She has lost about 10 pounds and he has lost about 25 pounds in about a month's time. They are both pretty committed to it. She is pretty close to her goal weight, while he still has a ways to go, but they both seem to like the diet and feel like it's something they can stick to. They said they are never hungry and rarely feel deprived. With that said, it makes this Momma a little anxious.

Thanks for your info!! I have a friend that tried it too and she did well but it was so rigid that she ended up gaining the weight back when she started eating "regular" foods again...I think she went back to old bad habits...but she did loose weight while on it...

I am glad to hear that someone else had success too. Guess it's protein and veggies for me. Ha. Wish me luck! Thx again!!!

It's been a while since I read any children's books, but from my hazy recollection of youthful reading, the author being a specific shape or size was not one of the things that determined the success of any particular publication.

What worked for me was stories that enriched my life by informing, educating and entertaining me.

Do your books do that? Do they inform, educate and entertain? If so, go along and enchant your audience. They will be delighted to meet you.

In the meantime, reflect on why you feel the need to lose weight. Then develop a plan to reach your goals in a safe, healthful and sustainable way.

Good luck!

I have done some research on it, and actually was considering it as I do much better with higher fats, but then I watched "What the health" on netflix and reconsidered. However, I follow a lot of instagrammers who swear by keto, and thats actually their lifestyle choice. I know a lot of females who have lost almost 20 lbs while adapting a keto lifestyle.

However, if you are exploring different ways to lose weight in a time-frame, I can speak from experience regarding the 21 day fix. I did that for the first time about 3 years ago without the shakeology-so literally just the containers from amazon and the workout videos(which you can now get online), and lost 16 lbs in 21 days. I also was able to keep that weight off after. The best part to me was that it was all normal foods-no cutting a particular food group out.

Wow. That is a terrific weight loss rate! I actually have those containers! Forgot about them... My dietician actually suggested the KETO diet and gave me food lists...I am hopeful that it works. I don't like feeling rushed with food changes because it makes me feel defeated before I even begin but I'm sure everyone out there has felt the pinch of a quickie weight loss need...

I'll post my results. Thanks.

I never felt that pinch, so I cannot relate in that regard. To me weight loss does not need to be that quick as long as you do it and lose weight if needed. Slow and steady is also a great approach. It sounds like you are setting yourself up for something you cannot maintain if you go for the quicky ("I don't like feeling rushed with food changes because it makes me feel defeated before I even begin"). Risking gaining it back when the "quicky" is over. I would like to recommend to reconsider your approach. Create and work towards a lifestyle that allows you to lose weight where you don't feel rushed too much. Learn about nutrition. That way you will also be able to keep it off.

To lose weight you have to eat less calories than you burn, no matter the diet. To maintain you have to eat as many calories as you burn, also no matter the diet.

I encourage everyone to watch "What the Health" on Netflix.  "Food Choices" in another good one.  They are very eye opening and informative.  I hate to think what's going on in your arteries while on a Keto diet.

And honestly.... someone has to lose a ton of weight for me to even notice that they have lost weight.  But if you want to feel and look your best for your event, a balanced diet, good sleep, lots of water and exercise will help you achieve that.

I have never done Keto, but like the others, I would focus on finding some sort of program you can see yourself doing forever.  My mom used to be a librarian and she was the person who scheduled author presentations and she always talked about them over dinner.  I can tell you that growing up, hearing about 1000s of authors over 20 years that their weight or appearance was never mentioned.  She told their stories; about the people themselves.

I am using DASH (the book is called DASH for Weightloss) as my lifetime program.  It's free, easy, and works for me.  I've just completed my 6th month on it and really can see myself doing it the rest of my life.  I don't want the scale to yo-yo again.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Keto is more of a lifestyle change - it is actually pretty easy to maintain. I've been Keto since August of 2016. I've fallen off the wagon more than a handful of times. But from August to November of 2016 I lost approx 60lbs. Just make sure to stay hydrated and keep your electrolytes up. ❤️

If I get a hamburger, I'll have them wrap it in lettuce or chop it up and eat it like a "meat salad" haha.

Breakfast is usually my biggest meal of the day - I have a cup of coffee with heavy whipping cream in it - usually two eggs and some type of protein. This month it'll be sausage because I didn't want to burn myself out on bacon 😄

Lunch has been the same for probably 3 months now - Broccoli Chicken Alfredo. I'm switching it up this week and doing Riced Cauliflower, Chicken and Alfredo just for a different texture.

Dinners are usually the hardest because my kids and husband are not Keto. But I just make adjustments to "normal" dinner foods. Example -- instead of using breadcrumbs in my meatloaf I'll use crushed up pork rinds. and instead of using beans in my Chili I'll just add in another can of tomatoes.

Just little adjustments here and there help keep your carbs in check.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the great meal ideas... You are making actual recipes and I'm trying to exist in raw veggies and eggs only. That's why I am having trouble... I will start investing a bit more time in actually preparing meals... And reserving what I was doing as snacks.

I am 44 -as much as my picture doesn't show it, my metabolism sure does! Haha. I am definitely looking that diet up! Thanks. I have been doing alright in the KETO with a slight hiccup here and there but those slight mishaps were enough to throw me out of ketosis and it is soo hard to get back in! Uugghh. Thanks for the heads up in the military diet!
