Under Target vs Over Target

Trying to understand this "Target" feature. My goal is to lose about 20 pounds. Is it better to be Under or Over target when I'm using the "Food Plan" method? (Photo for reference). I've read the explanation a few times and I'm still not convinced I follow...May just go back to the other method.recent weekrecent week

I think the ideal is to be right "in zone" but it's quite tricky to get there. Obviously if you eat under you're increasing your calorie deficit, so you may lose the weight faster, but it will be harder to sustain in the long run (because you're going to feel hungrier) so you might find that your maintenance calories also come down and when your diet returns to normal, you gain the weight back more quickly. Being over isn't necessarily an issue either, especially in the example you've given where it's clear that your calorie intake was still lower than your expenditure (the transparent blue bars that run alongside the opaque ones). Providing your actual calories in is less than the expenditure, you should continue losing weight (it's obviously more complicated than that)
