Using Fit Bit for one month, I gained 8% BMI

I gave it my all with these steps, I loved it.  It was fun, friendly and very satisfying but it's over it really is.  After one month I stopped and talked with my trainer, just a sit down, a weigh in and a BMI reading and my BMI went up 8%.  GIve or take I have not done the math but I've lost between 10-20 lbs of muscle and not fat.....  I've completely changed everything about my diet, the steps, the work I do and at the end of the day it's just been completely counter productive...

I've not been a saint with food but on average I've stayed below the recomended calories in a big way, burning so much more than I've taken it.  I'm now averaging 10K steps per day but I'm not happy about the muscle loss.  I couldnt believe it and as of Saturday I'm taking another look at fit bit.  I do believe in the 10K steps per day health and fitness program but no more and no less for what I need to do.  I'm going back to straight weight training and the minimum of steps and I'd be willing to bet come January 1st I'll have lost body fat and gained muscle in big way.

If I put it on in a month I can take it off in a month but steps are not the answer here.  I love it, it's fun my friends and I here have a blast with trying to out do one another but it's counter productive.  I dont belive one person here wants to lose muscle but the tail of the tape doesnt lie.  Never saw this comming, I mean yesterday I did 8 miles and after I was spent, went home and got some protien in me, some carbs, and a few hours rest.  I went back to the gym to do weight training but it's really to late at this point, well it was a great month and I had a lot of fun.   I do feel better and I do look better but it's no wonder why my blood pressure was high yesterday lol....  wow...  best of luck

Just to add, not complaining I had a blast...  This month will be more geared up to weight training and the min of steps 10k period.  I could have added more protien to my diet, less sodium, the usual.  I do have to say I look and feel better.  I lost my love handles completely, for what ever reason right?  Live and learn, I got caught up in the whole more more more or the step count rather than the weight training.  I've always just did the weight training with very little cardio and my BMI has always been right on.  This was all new to me and really fun but losing muscle it's just not where it's at and back to old school training.  Well it's December and although I've blown my year end goals I do not believe it's over until it's over.

The fit bit is still this years best Christmas gift to all my friends and without question.  Now that I'm back on track I feel I'll see a massive improvement come years end...  Good luck

I know that long distance runners usually are skinny (low muscle&) because they burn a lot of calories, but don't train the muscles to grow. It is the same principle as walking a lot. For an increase muscle% you need to do heavy weight lifting and ensuring that your body is able to grow the muscles (bulking) and after you gained the muscles you will reduce the bodyfat% so you will see the muscles (cutting). But I do not know a lot about clean bulking and cutting, because you want to be able to grow muscles as best as possible against a so low as possible increase in bodyfat%. A clean diet is just as important or even more important than training.

Hope this gives you some insight in what happened to your body last month. Remember to have fun during the process!

You just achieved what I've been trying to do for years!! Even at my thinnest I had 16" calves and 16" biceps. (170/size 6, without weights, and being a girl). I'd LOVE to lose some muscle. This actually gives me a bit of hope that even with losing weight the fitbit program might actually help me slim up some rather than being the hulk once the fat comes off again.

Really this makes no sense to me.  If you were lifting before maybe, but otherwise I don't get it.  How could upping your exercise possibly result in a loss of muscle?  How are you even determining this is what happened?
