WANTED: Support System

Hello all!

I am 19 years old and looking to lose about 70 pounds. My 21st birthday is in exactly 1 year, 6 months, and 19 days and I hope to be to my goal weight by then. I decided to skip out on college my first year, I lacked communication skills and social skills due to my weight. I now live at home and work out everyday for about an hour and a half. I eat 1,500 calories a day (no it doesnt starve me haha).

I'm looking to make a support system. Its hard to make friends when you arent at college and no one really knows what you are going through. I'd love to have some fitbit friends to take on some step challenges with and to motivate one another to work hard and eat clean!!

Thank you for your time, hope to talk sometime in the future.

Happy Fitbitting 🙂

(PS, I also have an instagram that documents my progress if youd like to follow me on my journey and I can follow you on yours) INSTAGRAM:: ((Watchhergetfit))

Also I'd recommend joining in with the 'New Year to Valentines' challenge if that's something that appeals to you.

Myself & a group of other like minded people all working towards different goals check in with our progress & stories. It (& previous challenges) has really helped me keep focused over the last 10 months.

Here's a link if you did want to join, it's on the weight loss discussion board Smiley Happy:

Cool deal Abigail.  Sometimes it can be tough without a support system.  Calorie restriction is a great start! If you're on a special diet or just looking for some ideas on being healthier and are interested in going over recipes or just looking for motivation, etc. feel free to contact me!  That also goes for anyone else that happens by this post 🙂

@AbigailAnn Hello,

I enjoyed reading through your comment and if I may, I would like to add my "ten pence" (I am from UK hence the £ and pence)

I guess a question that stands out for me after reading your comments, is why do you want to loose weight? If you ignore all of the media hype (also known as media amplification sprial *geeky snort*) if you want to loose weight for XYZ reasons, then I personally think that you are focused on something different, i.e. not YOU!

In anything we do in life, I think it is very important that we stop for a minute and really comprehend why are we doing the things we do?

To give you a personal example, I was hanging around a group of people who were all happy doing their thing as a group and never really supported each others plans or goals, as long as the group were there when a night out was due, or when they needed something then it was fine.

When I mentioned I was going to study psychology for six years in the hope of going on to a phd, they laughed and said yeah right. Now I am doing it, their friendship ended, because I was not available to go out when they wanted due to study.

Anyways, the point I am trying to make (apologies if this is a somewhat long winded and crude approach) is that find what goals (if any) you have and make sure whatever it is you want to do is for you and not to fit into any social group. I have found that by sticking my head above the fence, I have discovered a world of interesting people I would never have ever thought I would be hanging out with and actually, there is so much more to life and so much more to experience other than worrying about something so insignificant as body image and weight.

However, like you, I want to loose weight, but for me, I take the approach that somedays I will be focused on eating properly and getting exercise in and on somedays I won't, I think if you adopt a foundation mindset similar to this, you will be surprised that you will naturally fall into a pattern of mixing with people that make you feel positive (and you them) and you will reach your goals before you know it.

Remember, your body is one of the most powerful, complex machines ever formed on this planet and it is still not understood fully to this day and probably never will be.

Hope this helps.

 @LordHeathenThank you for your comment.

I've struggled with being obese since I was 10, so I'm doing this for me AND 10 year old me who was bullied. I am doing this for myself, but I'm also doing it to prove to those people who made fun of me throughout middle school and high school that I can do it. I don't know what gave you the idea that I was doing it for media purposes but I do appreciate your input.

@AbigailAnn Hiya,

Apologies, I didn't explain myself, I meant that you should ignore media hype around weight loss etc, I was not implying that you were somehow following the media hype, so I apologise if you thought I was.

It sounds like you are doing this for you and for that I commend you. Good luck, and add me as a friend if you require anymore buddies for your support network, always glad to help.

Hey AbigailAnn,

I'm new to this too, I literally just got my fitbit today, like 4 hours ago and I also need friends who are going through the same thing as me. I'm in college and I understand how hard it is, with studying and trying to socialize I feel like I have no time for weight loss. Also it's a bit embarrassing to try and work out in a small dorm room in front of your roommates who are both super thin (btw). But I know that I need to not get super skinny, but get healthy. I do this not only for me but for my mom because she's always pushing me to get healthy but I always fail and I just want to show her I can. I could also use a support system, so I hope we can do some challenges together sometime and just be there to push eachother toward our goals.

I just followed you on instagram. Smiley Tongue
