Weighing vs measuring?

ANSWERED

I’ve been on my weight loss journey for 3.5 weeks now, and started daily exercising (walking) 1 week ago. I am walking 2.5km per day and sticking rigorously to 1000 calories per day.  I am not hungry at all.  I’ve lost 7kg since I started, have 23kg more to go.

I have days when I’m losing 500gm a day, then days when I’m eating exactly the same amounts (I weigh everything) and stay the same weight.  Yet my pants and tops are definitely looser.  I haven’t measured myself yet, but am wondering if I should?

Is it better to weigh each day, or measure each day?  Or am I becoming obsessive (😀) and should be only doing it once a week?

@TraceSPN  Wow!!  great job you are doing!  Just my opinion but I think you should definitely weigh AND take your picture in good clothes  because you can win money with a before and after  picture.  You might not want to use a swimsuit for instance to publish in a magazine .  Anyway for measurements don't make the mistakes I already made.....the only way you can be consistent is to measure with a tape held as tight as you can hold it with a finger inside.  It isn't cheating.  Studies show that people who weigh  most often usually weigh less.  However one lady said that didn't work for her because if the number was good she felt she could splurge etc.  The best day to weigh if only once a week may be Friday because most people eat more on weekends  and your weight will be higher at the beginning of the week.  Elimination can be several pounds sometimes  more or less.  Don't get discouraged.

Your weight tends to fluctuate up and down (even when you are on a downward trend) daily due to things like hydration level, sodium intake, and bowel movement. If you choose to weigh every day it is very important to be able to focus on the trend (i.e. is the number generally going in the direction you want it to) rather than each individual number.

Measuring yourself daily may not show huge results, as you are not likely to lose a huge amount of circumference daily so once a week may be less frustrating. Overall switching to weekly weigh-ins or measurements may be most helpful for your motivation in your new lifestyle...
