I have the same problem. I spent 75 min. today exercising in the water, water aerobics and then swimming. It's too bad there is no way to count those steps other than counting the calories burned thru MFP. Three days a week that brings my average steps down to about 7000. It would be nice if they could make it water proof.

What are you logging it as? The calorie burn from the fitbit database is based on "MET values" for that activity adjsuted for your weight. So if you choose correctly it should give you the correct activity level intensity (for what that activity tests as in lab studies). I don't think you burn the same calories water jogging as running on land (my heart rate monitor response is quite different too--so it isn't just fitbit). But it is still a good workout--as good as you make it really. If logging it as "water aerobics", try logging it different as a lot of water aerobics classes are mild intensity (not all), but I think the estiamte is based on the more common mild intensity classes. For my stats, 30 minutes "water jogging" is 204 calories (408 for an hour--that is pretty good), for "water aerobics, water calisthenics" it is 102 calories for 30 minutes (204 for an hour which seems a little low for a fairly vigorous or vigorous aerobic workout), "Treading water, moderate effort" is the same as water aerobics, and "treading water fast vigorous effort" is 255 calories for 30 minutes (510 for an hour which is really high for me). I searched the app for the term "water", I find if I use vague terms I see more choices. Maybe try logging it different if what it credits does not seem to match the intensity of your workout. It is a little easier with distance activities since you have an objective number to enter though.

Thanks for your reply. I am only logging my activity thru My Fitness Pal and it does give me credit for the water aerobics and the swimming. I was just wishing that it would show up in my steps for the day as the days I swim and do water exercises my count is much lower. The aerobic class I took today was definitely very active but as you say they are not all that way. At our gym there are 3 water aerobic instructors and they are all very different.
