headache from soda?

I used to drink a lot of diet coke and i guess you could say i was addicted to it. one day i went cold turkey and just stopped drinking it. its been about 170 days since i had a diet coke and i dont remeber the last time i just had soda in general. i havent had a headache lately and i had a sprite the other day and a few hours later i had a really bad headache. does this happen to anyone else when they drink soda? just curious if soda is really that bad that every time i drink it, it is making my head hurt.

I was a 30 year diet coke drinker.  I quit by slowly dropping how much I drank until I was only drinking diet coke at lunch.

Then one day I just quit, and I was fine...

About 3 weeks later I was given a free Diet coke, and drank it...  Two days later boom I got a terrible headache.  It was then I realized that I was going through caffiene withdrawel.  It was about 4 days later when the headaches finally went away.

I've since tried Caffiene free diet coke and Caffiene free Coke Zero and no headaches....

So for me no more diet coke ever....

I've been in your shoes; a couple days ago I was switched to a complex carb + low sugar diet for medical reasons.

Diet coke, tea w/o sugar, coffee w splenda and plenty of water. Until... I ran into a box of meringues. I ate two large ones. Smiley Sad

I rarely have a headache, but my God; I had a full blown migraine. Trying to be brave, I wanted to wait until it went away (it started at 11am) but when I got up from bed at 1am and felt like I was kicked in the head, I surrendered.

Two aspirines (they thin out the blood) and a liter of water later, I was pain-free. Sugar and caffeine withdrawals are tough to beat, you can do it!

yes, pops can give you headaches.  the reason for the headaches are called, High Blood Pressure.  so, yes, sodas are bad when you drink it.  it causes HBP, (High Blood Pressure), obese, and it makes you weak and tired from too much sugars.  I recommend you talk to your doctors and they can give you medicines for those headaches and normalize those high blood pressure or you'll be sent to an early grave.

Drink water.  if you don't like it cuz it's just plain water and need flavors like pops did, just add Mio with any flavor you like.  I go to a movie and asked for large bottle of water which is cheaper than pop, and add Mio fruit punch flavor.  I felt a lot better, more fresh during the movie or dinner when i dine out or anything.

I had the opposite issue. I used to get headaches a lot, and painkillers (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen) never worked, but a can of Dr Pepper did. I'm sure it's the caffeine that helped. But ever since I started exercising, I've had far fewer headaches. I had a mild headache when I woke up yesterday, but I think that might be because I'm not geting enough sleep. Luckily, a naproxen and some iced tea took care of it.

I very rarely have soda--perhaps a ginger ale at a bar or restaurant if they don't have iced tea--and I don't drink diet because I hate the taste.

Mega drinking and not drinking can mess with your mind. Been there and needed Aleve when I forgot to drink 6 cups of coffee.

I few years ago I drank soda a lot but decided to quit it. I went without soda for two years and started drinking it every now and then. (About once a month.) every single time I drink it (it’s usually sprite) I get really terrible headaches.

Artificial sweeteners are a known trigger for migraines. I am prone to migraines and I decided to eliminate all soft drinks and most processed food from my diet.
My dietary changes seem to be working. No migraines! It's been a month. That motivates me to continue on the healthy path.
I know a bodybuilder who also suffers from migraines and she said a "clean" diet is the only effective tool she's tried for prevention. Nothing else worked.
