@wilgaus Welcome to the forums!
I would try different things. You really need to like what you do so that you stick with it.
You need cardio and strenght
I like walking outdoors the best. But I also have several different DVDs I like to do as well.
Do the weights at the gym

Hmm. There are several ways to get motivated. Gym; you have many different machines - did you try them all?
If you feel shy to measure yourself set goals using your belt. This week I use second hole. Lets see which hole fits next week. This works for me.
Exercise and sleep are related and in my case an addiction that I will not give up. Ever since I started to go to the gym (started in mid 40s) my sleep has improved. These days it is matter of minutes between I turn off the lamp and me fast asleep.
What else? Yes your partner will be proud to have a fit man standing next to her.

Have you tired weights?
A simple program like stronglifts 5x5 is pretty good for motivation. It consists of three exercies at any given time. All the excercies are for compound muscle groups which will target several muscles groups.
Another good thing about this program is that every time you successfully complete 5 sets of a weight on an exercise, the next time you atempt this exercise you increase the weight (albeit in very small increments). This gives you a real sense of achievement as you quickly see improvements in the weight you lift.
