Needing a boost from peers to do the right thing. I have caught myself not wearing my fitbit, not counting my food and water intake has went to the drain.....gym is a once a week event. I have a cruise in October, goal was to have lost 20 pounds by then but i can't even motivate to get to the gym??!?!? any suggestions to going alone and having anxiety when going????

We're fortunate here in town where there is a small gym which 1 or 2 people can hire out privately for less than a normal gym membership. Personally I also have several pieces of gym equipment in the home so no anxiety there about going to a gym.
There's quite a lot you can do at home without any equipment. Just Google for information.
However, GET THAT FITBIT ON! Really, it's wearing or carrying my fitbit that keeps me motivated. I could easily get lazy if I wasn't thinking but the fitbit keeps me conscious of what I'm doing.
For example, yesterday I went to pick up some theatre tickets, about a mile away, then walked a little further to a shopping "village" - from there I could have decided to catch a bus home but instead my little digital friend cheering me on gave me the incentive to walk another mile to meet up with my husband when he finished work, which is half a mile away from home.
I could have done all of that by car, bus or a combination of both and probably would have done were it not for the fitbit.
Once you get going just keep going, don't talk yourself out of it. AND if you don't lose the whole 20lbs just congratulate yourself on what you have lost. I've got a long way to go yet but every little step is a step in the right direction.

hi Watsonlane! I am having trouble also. My biggest day has been 5000-7000 steps and like you some days when I know that I have no time to exercise I don't even wear my fitbit.
Why don't we try harder together. I know that you will be watching my steps and and I will be watching yours.

Thank you! I have a hard time walking due to my primarily sitting job (i'm a sleep tech so watching people sleep doesn't require much walking) getting two thousand steps from working 12+ hours is almost impossible. The gym seems to be the only place i can go to walk. other workouts seem to cause my asthma to flare or the six screws in my back to hurt. I'm not trying to use those as excuses at this point I try to find activity that will not flare or hurt myself. again, thank you for your reply, its nice to see someone out there is reading and may care about my non existence exercise!!!

I too have asthma which was really a deterrant to me when it came to walking at the start, but I have it pretty well controlled now with preventative inhaler used morning and evening so life is a lot easier. What do you use for your asthma? At one time the doctors were only prescribing the relief inhaler to be used when I got out of breath but I think there has been a radical shake-up here in the attitude towards asthma in recent months.

I am on ProAir used prior to exercise. I had no idea that my troubles were even asthma based until I had carpel tunnel and Ulner surgery in April!

ProAir is a rescue inhaler similar to what I was using. Since being put on a regular preventative one I have not had to use my rescue, even when walking uphill which always used to take its toll on me.
Have a look at this page for information about prevention and rescue: Asthma - prevention vs relief

Hi,
I feel your sturggle. Here are a few things that help motivate me.
1. I made a visual goal poster. Everytime I lose so much weight I get a awesome reward like new clothes ect. and I have it where I can see it everyday.
2. I decided I needed more than 1 reason to lose weight. Your cruise coming up is defianlty an awesome motivation to help get you in shape, but try adding a few others. For me there are some people who aren't very nice and I know it would literally KILL them knowing I look better than they do and that was a good motivater at the start but once I got in the habit I found other reasons why I NEEDED to lose weight. You could also take a picture of youself now and have that as your wallpaper on your phone. That way when you look at it it's a motivatation that that girl you're looking at on your phone deserves to be happy and healthy.
Good luck!

Hi Fitbritt.
I love your idea of putting a photo as mobile phone wallpaper. I've been making a strip of photos every month of (hopefully) noticeable changes. I've only got 3 so far but I'm hoping in 12 month's time to see a real big difference between the start and where I am then.
