Did you mean:

tattoo idea

so, i have had my fitbit for about three weeks or so now.   i weighed myself last week for the first time in about a year, and I am at my heaviest i have ever been, and about 50 pounds more than what i weighed the last time i weighed myself.

I have thought about the idea of taking that weight, and having that number tattooed on me so it is staring me in the face for every decision i make...decisions that helped me get to that point, and decisions that will help me get to where i want to be.  Once i hit my goal, it will be a reminder of what i achieved and to never go back.

pretty much the only thing keeping me from getting it right now is i am trying to decide on a font or if i want anything else added to it.  A few people i have shared this idea with said it was a pretty awesome idea.

anybody else have thoughts of this.

Hi there,

I don't know whether my perspective will be helpful to you or not, but here it is...

I think tattoos are generally a very personal experience.  The meaning or inspiration behind the design usually has some deep significance to the person getting the tattoo.  It seems that you have been giving this a lot of thought, so I would say that you are not being impulsive and have the thought process pretty much covered.  I think, however, that you might want to consider the location of the tattoo for two reasons.  First, you may want to consider whether or not the tattoo will be affected in any way by the weight loss that you want to achieve (i.e.-will it still look like you envisioned it), and second, will you be happy with the placement of the tattoo once you achieve your desired weight goal (I hear that you say you want a reminder of your achievement, but how often/public/private).  Just my two cents re: possible considerations.  Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the reply

where i am having it placed will not be affected by any loss.  There is one of two places I am considering putting it.  both spots are pretty close to each other (my workplace is pretty tattoo friendly as far as visibility, but it will probably go in the spot where it wont require a long sleeve shirt if i ever end up at a place that isnt as friendly about that, even though that spot is my first choice).

nobody will know what the number stands for if it is always visible (which it will be regardless in both spots when i wear tshirts.].   if asked about it, I wont be ashamed or embarrassed now or when it comes that number comes down.  I will wear it as a sense of pride when i do achieve my goals.   just trying to figure out what kind of font i want to have it done in.

When i saw the total on the scale, it hit me like a ton of bricks.  i mean, i knew it was going to be bad...just wasnt expecting it quite that bad.

I think a tattoo is a personal decision.  I do not like tattoos because I do not like needles but that is just me.   I would not beat yourself up at the weight (it happens to the best of us) and just work on losing it.  I was in a similar position and I have lost 49 pounds since getting the fitbit.  If I can do it, anyone can.

You are taking the right "steps" by getting a fitbit.

thats pretty much what i wanted, but not in that location (although it would look good in that location on the same wrist as my fitbit).

I'd use a Henna tattoo instead.

i don't know if i have seen too many men get henna art on their bodies. maybe they do, but i usually see it on females.

i think i know what i want and how i want it. just saving up some extra cash and i will be set.

Hi, the "tatoo" is, IMO, a dopey idea. It is certainly "permament," but is that what you really need to get to your goal?? Suggest the following: I am doing it myself: A glossy 8"x 10" color pic of what you presently ARE  taped to your bathroom mirror with a side-by-side pic from "when you were" at your (past) weight and current objective. This may be an old pic from back in high school or college or whenever. The side-by side will "tatoo" your incentive indelibly if you have to shave daily or brush your teeth twice a day in front of the pics. Make it a point to LOOK at them daily...this will help much more than a 'tat....

Good luck,
