I'm relatively new to the online community of FitBit. I've been using my Fitbit One on and off since last year and finally decided to get serious about tracking my activity. I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy which lead to heart failure in February, so it has limited some of my abilities to "get those numbers up". Despite my diagnosis, I am not here to lose weight, rather to maintain the health I have left and heal my heart from damage. I enjoy networking with others and sharing my story of how someone who appears perfectly healthy can have a near brush with death at a young age; I like to educate people about some of the stigmas surrounding cardiac patients, we aren't all the same!

First day with the fitbit! Pumped to be here and feeling motivated. Should I be starting with a goal of 10,000 steps a day?

Thank you, that's great advice!
I think I'll try changing the setting back to Non-Dominant and see how that affects the way it counts steps.
My goal for steps right now is to hit at least 5,000 per day. I walk up and down the hall at work - I have a desk job, eek! - and even anound the house. So far so good!

Hi Vegan, try just monitoring how many steps you do without trying. Once that is extablished you can increase (I like to increase by 1000 steps,if that easy increase another 1k) Just don't make it so that you feel pressured-it should be enjoyable, Hope this helps and keep on walking.
