We live in "Steinbeck country" (Salinas Valley/Monterey County), named after the famous author John Steinbeck. And just as Steinbeck documented his journeys with his beloved dog in "Travels with Charlie", I'm going to photojournal in this thread my "Travels with Melody".
A lot has changed in Salinas since the days of Steinbeck. But some things haven't changed that much. Today we visited the childhood home of Steinbeck, which has been restored to its original beauty.
Down the street from the Steinbeck House is the Steinbeck Public Library, with a bronze statue of the author at the front entrance. I don't think Melody's ever seen a statue before. At first she was puzzled that he didn't greet her - or even flinch one little bit.
Then she surprised me and became downright ornery!
So I took her back to to dog training school for some proper obedience training. Of course, she passed with flying colors.

October was the pet adoption month. Frisko is one of these second hand dogs invited to bring a testimonial to celebrate this event in my company.
He is more famous than me, coming to the office each day 🙂

This is Sandy. Her first family moved home to Austraila and since she is a cold weather dog she stayed in Canada with us! She loves to walk in the snow and hasn't complained once about me dragging her out for multiple walks a day.

@WendyB Thanks! She is a sweetheart, makes friends wherever we go. She loves to be chased by other dogs and has five(!) cats who she loves, even lets them sleep on her dog bed.

Had a family member that walked her cat on a harness - worked for her and the cat. Mine would protest, but it can be done.

Five year ago I was used to put a harness on a young Abyssinian at the office. As her godfather it took me 4 months to train her to walk outside like this. After her adoption from our cattery she joined our house and I didn't use it anymore.

@SunsetRunner Awesome picture in an awesome location, love those kind of ruins! And your dog is beautiful! Great way to start posting on the Fitbit Community!
@WendyB haha I also saw someone walking a goat in a leash! They had two dogs and a goat and I didn't realised until I saw one of the "dogs" jumping around in a strange way. It was a goat.
Couldn't take a picture as they walk by so fast!
