We live in "Steinbeck country" (Salinas Valley/Monterey County), named after the famous author John Steinbeck. And just as Steinbeck documented his journeys with his beloved dog in "Travels with Charlie", I'm going to photojournal in this thread my "Travels with Melody".
A lot has changed in Salinas since the days of Steinbeck. But some things haven't changed that much. Today we visited the childhood home of Steinbeck, which has been restored to its original beauty.
Down the street from the Steinbeck House is the Steinbeck Public Library, with a bronze statue of the author at the front entrance. I don't think Melody's ever seen a statue before. At first she was puzzled that he didn't greet her - or even flinch one little bit.
Then she surprised me and became downright ornery!
So I took her back to to dog training school for some proper obedience training. Of course, she passed with flying colors.

Her name is Kara Jayne. She is 7 years old and quite the love! 🙂
Yes, I agree, dogs definitely smile. In fact, I think they even laugh, or giggle, sometimes when they're really, really happy. Like when you come back from vacation and they haven't seen you for days.
Danielle, thanks for the pic, please post more!

Here's my doggie,Pixie, and me taking off for a walk around our property. It's a daily event since getting my first fitbit for Christmas from my hubby. I'm loving every day with it...it is SO helping me get fit again, yes,Already! The portrait dog pic is Pix anticipating her Christmas toy! he/he She hurt her knee badly a year ago so I got her a soft brace. She doesn't limp at all now and I'm sure our brisk walks are strengthening her too.

Thankyou All for the sweet comments about my doggie. Pixie hasn't been in pain for many months but we just can't let her run free anymore except in a 40x40 dog pen and in my 35x90 garden where the raised beds slow her down. She's half heeler (half lab)and launching herself like a rocket and zooming full speed after a squirrel 200 feet away is what got her knee ligaments,on one side, torn up over a year ago. The first time we trusted her 6 months ago she hurt herself to limping all over again by "launching",instead of just running,Sigh,so now it's smaller spaces and our new daily walks for good. She's really a happy girl though so don't worry about her. Hubby made her a ramp to get into the PU canopy for drives and now she Asks me for our new walks! She loves my fitbit Too and will find me and just stare at me with those big brown eyes and bump my arm or leg with her nose until we get our walk in if I'm sitting at the computer. I'm So glad a bunch of Steps are so good for Both of us! cheers!

I love dogs and what a beautiful fellow is Pixie, @wannabelf.
This is my trustworthy, so polite buddy and a great companion when I'm running. His name is Richter and actually he is adopted. His mother gave birth and all the puppies were living in an abandoned car. Some of them were dying but they were rescue and I kept this guy. Now is healthy and strong as a buffalo.
