I guess rock climbing and bouldering is the most extreme sport I've been doing. Bouldering some highball problems (I consider 'highball" above 5 meters) with no other protection than a crash pad. I rehearse such bouldering problems climbing with a rope first to learn the route and make no mistake. Although, it happened that things went wrong, and the "art of falling" is something one has to learn early. One time I decided to abort and jumped down but one of my feet landed on the solid ground instead of the crash pad. I was lucky, no injury. I believe, most impacts went to the other foot which, luckily, landed where it should have. Other times, I took a swing while rehearsing a route, turned up-side-down in the harness, and smashed with my back into the rock. Good, my belayer didn't panic on that. The other time, after topping up the problem, I tried to get down but the usual path was covered with mud and I took a mudslide. Pretty dangerous, near the edge of the rock, and saved myself from the fall (about 10 meters) just by grabbing trees and branches on my way down. On that day, I was soloing so there was nobody with me which made it even more dangerous. I never told about it to my wife 😄 She would kill me quicker than the fall 😛 So yeah, it may get kinda extreme from time to time.
