Automatic wireless sync?

I have a few questions please about the wireless sync:

  1. Does it work with Android phones via Bluetooth? (If not, how?) The reason I ask is because my phone isn't showing that it's connected to any Bluetooth device, yet syncing seems to succeed...
  2. Although I don't remember exactly where I saw it on the website, it sounded to me like it only syncs when I manually open the app on my phone. But in the app I see two settings: "All-Day Sync" and "Always Connected". What is the meaning and differences of those two settings?
  3. How's the battery drain on the phone from syncing with the One?

Thanks,

Eliezer

Hi @Eliezer. Welcome to the Community. These are great questions.

1. Your Fitbit One, although your phone's Bluetooth must be turned ON, does not pair via your phone's Bluetooth functionality but via the Fitbit app per se.

2. All-day sync is not necessary, in my opinion. It may not tax battry life heavily, because a sync only takes a few seconds; but it will have a significant impact on data usage. So unless your service plan provides for unlimited data, you may want to disable 'all day sync' and force a sync when required.

3. No, syncing your One will have littlle impact on your phone's battery if you only sync when you need to; while all-day sync will tax your battery a little more. For me, I only sync once a day; and use the button on my tracker once or twice a day to navigate the various screens and see where I stand.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

@TandemWalker, thank you for your reply!

If the automatic sync isn't going to significantly impact my battery life - and I guess time will tell that - I'll definitely opt for automatic vs. manual. One less thing for the daily to-do list. Smiley Happy

Two more follow-up questions, if I may:

  1. Could you please clarify the meaning and differences of "All-Day Sync" and "Always Connected" on the Android app?
  2. How do each of these settings impact battery life relative to each other?

Thanks so much for your help!

@TandemWalker, thank you again for your helpful information.

It would really be nice if there was a sync option somewhere between "manual" (e.g. only when I open the app) and "All day sync" - like "Every __ hours"!

Is FitBit known to respond to user suggestions such as these? If so, through which forum/venue?

Thanks,

Eliezer

Hi @Eliezer. Actually, yes, Fitbit does listen to what's going on in the Community; and the engineering folks do pay attention to what is going on in the Feature Requests forum. But before you go ahead a post a new request in the Feature Request forum, perhaps you'd like to read a little bit more about How Fitbit trackers sync their data and take it from there. It says in part that "Your tracker syncs with the Fitbit app every time you open the app, or periodically throughout the day if you have all-day sync turned on. Some customers find that all-day sync causes the battery on their mobile device to drain too quickly. If this happens, you can disable all-day sync.
Your tracker syncs with Fitbit Connect every 15 minutes if it is near your computer and the wireless sync dongle is plugged in. "

Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

I've got the Desktop program and wireless dongle installed successfully on my Windows PC. When I trigger a manual sync, it works fine. I cannot find a setting for this, but is it possible for a sync to occur automatically (e.g. without me needing to do anything) when I come into proximity to my Windows PC?

Thanks,

Eliezer

@Eliezer I keep my dongle in the usb port of my Windows 8.1 computer and it syncs automatically every twenty minutes or so when there are new steps. Rarely do I ask it to sync because it does it all by itself.
