I got the burgundy because I anticipated it being easier to find when I set it down somewhere- the burgundy stands out a bit more in visual clutter (like my nightstand or if it falls on the floor when I'm not wearing it). I was right- the burgundy makes it more likely to "catch" my eye when I've put it down for some reason. As far as other things the color affects, it's still a very somber, inconspicuous color. I'd say go for it, unless you're planning on wearing it clipped to the outside of your clothes and will be driven mad by it not perfectly matching black outfits.
🙂 (I wear mine clipped to my underwear or, sometimes if wearing jeans, clipped into the inside of a pocket for security, so color matching is really never an issue for me.)
