I only walked 4,000 steps but calories burned shows 1,317. This can't be right. On my dashboard every day shows 1,210 burned, even back on days before I bought it. I have restarted and nothing changed.

As well as tracking calories you burn through activity, your fitbit also tracks your BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just keeping your body alive (even when asleep). They are calculated from your profile settings (age, weight etc) so you needn't be wearing your fitbit to get them.

When you see your calories burned total it includes the BMR calories burned since midnight so your 1317 calories wasn't just from your 4000 steps.
