Continuing Sync problems

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've got Fitbit on my iPod and my iPad Mini.  They sync just fine, no issues.  But I have continuing problems with my MacBook with dongle.  Right now, the Fitbit icon appears in the menu bar, but "Sync Now" and "Open Main Menu" are both dimmed and I could not get the One to sync via the computer.  I tried things suggested here....cleared the Safari cache, shut down, forced restarted.  Nothing changed.  I am beyond frustrated with this because I often want the sync to happen with my computer, not those other devices.

So in relation to the above issue, I un-installed the Fitbit app on my Mac, then reinstalled it.  It couldn't find the One, then ona second try it DID find it and sync, and now in the menu bar icon the "Sync now" and "Open Main menu" are now active again.  Do I have to go thru this whole process every time in order to sync on the Mac?

Something is wrong with a) the Fitbit app or 2) the dongle   or 3)  both

FITBIT folks:  Please fix this!

HI @CMCM. Here's what I think is happening. I'm no expert at this, this is just my opinion, based what I've read in other threads. Fitbit uses a single-channel Bluetooth connectivity. So even though your tracker can be paired with many different devices (phones, tablets, computers, iPods...), it can only have a live connection with only ONE device at a time. Turning OFF Bluetooth on your phone, ipad and ipod, would likely freeup the Bluetooth channel for your Mac/dongle to connect.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

This actually makes total sense, and I had half wondered about it myself, not so much with the Bluetooth with just generally, with the idea that the direct connect devices (without the dongle) might be interfering somehow.  Right now, my iPod and my iPad mini are OFF, and the sync on the menu bar is available.  I'll keep an eye on things with this idea in mind.

Another thing I just realized is that the sync seems to happen (often) without me having to initiate it via the menu.  I had previously thought I had to click on "sync" every time I wanted it to happen.  Now I realize it will do the sync all on its own.  I wish the overall directions for the One and for Fitbit in general were a bit more comprehensive and consolidated all in one place for reference.

FURTHER COMMENTS after previous one a few moments ago....I went to the dashboard (this is all with my Mac, all other devices are turned off right now), and nothing had synced today.  I clicked on sync in the menu bar and it couldn't find my tracker, even thought it was sitting right beside the dongle.  After a time, I gave up and clicked sync again, this time it found it and synced properly.

Here's my question:  I looked at my computer settings and bluetooth is ON.  Since there is a dongle, should I turn bluebooth OFF for the Mac?  Does the dongle take the place of bluetooth, and could the bluetooth setting on the Mac be causing issues?

I don't know that having Bluetooth turned ON on your Mac is the reason why your One didn't sync; but I can tell you that you do not need Bluetooth to sync your One. I don't have BT on my MacBook and the One syncs just fine with the Fitbit dongle.

I've had the same problem for a few weeks now.  I've been working with FitBit Techies, but no real solutions as of yet.

Thank you,
