I am getting used to this idiosynchratic device, but it still ceases to amaze me sometimes. Despite resting my One overnight nestled, cushioned in my pile of socks, as I do every night, the other night it still managed to log 9000 steps overnight. Daft, absolutely daft. I neutralised the steps, as normal, by logging activities as 'Driving', which knocked the overnight steps back to zero. However, today I noticed it had not neutralised the calories. I don't trust the One calories thing too much, but it is a useful rough guide, so why did it log 12 cals per 5 minutes when it is normally only 6 calories per 5 minutes during sleep? That's 1300 calories too many. As my activity is generally low due to health issues, and I sat on a train for much of yesterday, this 'error' almost doubled my calorie count for the day!

Hello @DerekCull! Thanks for stepping into the Community.
Your Fitbit shouldn't have logged any steps while it was not being used. I recommend that we try to restart your Fitbit One. Perhaps it could fix whatever is causing the Fitbit to count so many steps.
In the mean time I'd like to ask you some questions. Has this happened before? If so, when did it happen?
Look forward to your reply so that I can continue to assist you.

Thanks for your help.
My One has been dodgy since I bought it in late October 2016.
190k phantom steps before I opened the box, zillions of steps whilst driving, 10k steps overnight, until I found that wrapping it in my socks seemed to stop it, until the other night. Again, another 9k steps overnight. And 4 days ago it logged 33 Stairs on a 2000 step walk, and 3 days ago another 66 Stairs on a shorter, flat walk.
I usually believe the Steps are fairly reliable, but have no confidence in Calories, as it seems to log high calorie use whilst I am asleep! I only really want it for Steps, so I can manage OK, despite it's very odd behaviour.
I am wary of resetting it in case it erases my Step history. I have once switched it off, plugged it in and switched it back on again, which seemed to help some weeks ago.
Kind regards
Derek

Hello there @DerekCull! Thanks for reaching back.
In regards to the calories, adding calories through out the day, even if you're not walking, is absolutely normal for the Fitbit. It would be because of your Basal Metabolic Rate. You can read this great post by our very own @WendyB to learn more about it.
As for the tracker counting stairs on its own, please do keep in mind that sudden drafts of air could cause the tracker to count additional stairs. Changes on temperature can cause the same thing to happen.
If none of these could have caused the additional stairs, I'd recommend that you contact our Support Team. I'm sure they will be more than happy to assist you,
Hope you find this information useful! Let me know if you have any additional questions.
