I did an update to Fitbit One Firmware 6.64 per the instruction of Fitbit due to an error I was having turning the fitbit on. After I did the update, the fitbit will not turn on at all. Occasionally when I connect it to the charger, it will say 6.64 and show a full battery level, but every time I take if off the charger it will not even turn on at all. I have tried the reset process and endless amount of times and off the charger it will never turn on and it will only turn on occasionally on the charger. I followed the instruction of fitbit and totally deleted the application, created a new profile and started from zero, which they advised me to do to ensure I have the most updated firmware. Well, after that the device will not work at all and I cannot get anywhere with customer support who advised me to follow their process. Anyone with any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

@Cfohl If your tracker only turns on when plugged in, it's a 99.9% probability your battery is dead. These trackers haven't been manufactured in several years. They're not meant to be replaced but they can be, it's not as simple as sliding a plastic door and popping one in. You can find detailed pictures and instructions in this forum on how to do it, but it will take a razor blade and soldering skills. If that's not scared you off, you're in for a treat. If it has, you can still find used/refurbished Ones.

@bruttium along with the others, you have an old device with an old/dead battery. If unafraid to use a soldering iron, then, yes, the batteries in these can easily be replaced and they work wonderfully. I've got several Fitbit Ones with original batteries that still function great and get a week of battery each and I have others, including "Brand New in the Box" Ones that had dead batteries, that I replaced, and now they get almost 10 days on a charge! Browse this forum for detailed instructions on how to replace it and ask any questions. Happy new year 🙂

@Williger : I have a couple of Fitbit Ones. One of them still works and has the original battery. This one also comes apart easily, as the glue holding it together has failed, and I haven't bothered to re-glue it since I have it in a silicone case that holds it together. I figure the battery will go eventually, and then I'll just need to 'unglue' it. The second "One" is essentially new, but doesn't work. I haven't gotten it to come apart. If I can get it open, then I'm ok with fixing it myself. I just need a good reliable replacement battery. If you have reputable links for a replacement battery handy, it would be appreciated. I will hunt around the board and look for the instructions you mention. I'm sure I can find it. Thanks for the reply and encouragement. Cheers. All the best to you in 2021.

@bruttium cool, with a couple of them you should get a head start on the new dead one while the old one still functions. They're very rewarding to work on and pretty simple to service. The silicone clip will keep it secure without glue, and when you rebuild that one, remove all residual glue carefully with an Exacto knife or similar before regluing so everything fits perfectly. I swear, removing glue takes more time than any other part of the process, LOL removing the case from an intact one can be done carefully with a razor blade. I'd highly recommend inserting it gently from the side opposite of the charging terminals as they're too easy to slice through if unfamiliar with the required pressure. If you need some assistance opening it, you can warm them with a heat gun briefly to loosen the glue, though be careful with this step to not damage the circuitry with excess heat, even a few seconds is enough, then you can insert the blade (or another super-thin pry tool) and work your way around to lift it open. If these steps aren't helpful, let me know what you're encountering, I've opened and reassembled dozens of these successfully. I've found excellent batteries on eBay, right now I see 45 results for 'Fitbit One battery', the top result being a vendor I've purchased from before, it's a 60mAh and works wonderfully. TL/DR: Slice around the near-invisible seam to reveal 2 parts; top and bottom, briefly heat existing solder to remove old wires then directly replace with new ones, hit "on" to test before gluing as most have a little juice in them 😉 LMK any questions and welcome to the new years! Difference in original/new battery
Always good to test before glue!

@AlbertSnodgrass I've not seen a good exploding battery report in like 15 years, would you mind sharing the links with us, please? I've got some direct vendor relationships and also purchased good replacement batteries on Amazon recently, and I'm in the states. As I'm unsure where you're located that you're prohibited from purchasing batteries, you'll maybe you'll have better luck on eBay or even AliExpress? Unsure what you're finding that's dodgy. Several sources for good One batteries. Perhaps stick with reputable vendors with solid feedback and several previous sales.
I'm installing a new battery right now, the original battery is the one I'm scared of exploding, it's expanded greatly, much larger than the tracker's chassis was designed to accommodate due to how LiPo batteries degrade over time. Inspecting everything carefully, cleaning where needed, and successfully installed the replacement 🙂
Here's a good original working perfectly Fitbit One battery, vs. one that's greatly expanded ...YIKES!
Top one = good, bottom one = YIKES!
LOL, the only problem with this particular one pictured was something that happened at the factory level, the battery wasn't properly soldered in, I found a perfectly brand new battery inside what was considered to be a dead tracker - WOOT!
TL:DR: eBay One Batteries

Any ideas of what kind of glue works well to put a Fitbit One back together? I managed to get mine apart and get it working, but it needs something to keep it together. Hot glue doesn't have enough working time....Super glue might never come apart again. Is there a glue that companies use that will let me glue the edges and have the time to put it back together and hold it, perhaps in a vice until it dries. But I still want to be able to heat it and get it apart again later, if I need to fix it again.
Thanks for any recommendations (available locally or on Amazon.)
Cheers

Oh, a rubber case does hold it together. I just don't want to be losing bits of it when I take it out to charge it.
I was just curious if there was some secret kind of glue that people used for such projects that I was perhaps unaware of. I could use Crazy glue or Gorilla glue, but I'd probably never be able to get it apart again if needed.

@bruttium Yes. B-7000.

@bruttium don't use crazy glue 🙄
secure the battery with double-sided tech tape, run a beam of B-7000 around the seam, vice overnight. enjoy.

I also have the same exact problem with my Fitbit One. Have all suggestions with no luck. My device is old so assume no free replacement will be available. It was working just as it should up until this last week. Were there changes made. Wondering if changes deliberate so that I am forced to purchase new device. 🙂

@KarenSA Hi Karen, your sentences are confusing as they appear as questions but don't have question marks so not sure if you're just thinking aloud, however, I'm sure Fitbit hasn't created intentional system changes to force you or anyone to upgrade. You should try the resetting procedures outlined in this forum to see if you can get it going again, otherwise, if just displaying a firmware when plugged in and dead outside the charger, the battery is dead. Fitbit hasn't sold these in several years and not only wouldn't have any free replacements available, they simply don't even have the units anymore. If you're set on the One, you can find them on Amazon and eBay, both used and refurbished (new batteries), just make sure to buy from reputable sellers, preferably ones with free returns, should you encounter an issue. Otherwise, pick out another Fitbit and get stepping! 😄

Yup - I gave up and just got a fitbit watch. The downside to the watches is it’s not as accurate as the “one”. If I’m cooking- I get a lot of “steps”. Ah well...

Please, get a new fitbit. This watch is 10+ years old, so don't expect a fix in this error.
