Fitbit One counts steps but miles are off

Have Fitbit One. I have reconnected to pc to ensure latest update. Rebooted. The steps are set to 2.0 feet for my stride and yet at 8298 steps I only show 1.82 miles....???  I did 2 mile walk away the pounds video and a 12 minute mile video. It’s been accurate in the past just not sure why it’s now showing now.

If your stride length is set as 2.0 inches, that is obviously unreasonable.

See How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

It was a long day....not inches...feet

Your miles will never be exact for doing a Walk Away the Pounds. Leslie even explains it on her blog.

Your not really going anywhere. So it can not be accurate in the distance

I answered too quickly without catching that it was for videos.

(Or maybe that was edited in after I replied.)

So I should never have mentioned the videos. They are only there to give me music and s cadence to walk by.  But I do believe that your statement of...because your walking indoors it has no distance to be able to measure.  My Stepz app captures the miles so I may just use that for those records.

The distance mentioned in the video is only an average based on some imagined made up virtual stride.

I'm theory the user is not moving and the real distance would be '0'.

In reality Fitbit should take the recorded steps and multiply it by the users stride, which most likely will not be the stride setting of the instructor.

Again...we don’t need to worry about the video. It is only playing in the
background while I march/step around my coffee table and giving me a
cadence to walk with. I see the steps registering on the Fitbit app but I
believe because I am walking indoors it doesn’t register the actual miles.

The Fitbit One has no option to measure distance. The One counts your steps then takes an educated guess at calculating distance.

And Again you are not covering any distance by walking in place. Sure its going to count your steps but its will never count a distance walking in place. Sorry You are not going any distance what so ever

Walk outside and get your Distance

Please read Leslie Blog it covers it very well

I'm with Lynn on this.  As long as you are recording steps and are not connected to GPS (not sure if that's even possible with the One), Fitbit calculates distance as number of steps times stride length, whether you are inside or outside, listening to music or watching a tape.  Originally I was thinking maybe walking in place without swinging arms was not detecting steps, but she is getting steps.

I do a lot of walking inside (without GPS) and get distance.  However I don't pay any attention to distance, considering it just a function of number of steps, which I do watch.

I've seen a few other similar posts recently.  I lean toward it being a Fitbit issue.

I just walked in place for a few minutes and got an tenth of a mile added to my daily total distance.  I cannot imagine that would have changed if I were watching or listening to a tape, unless that program has a hidden subliminal message that subconsciously reprograms the Fitbit.

@JohnnyRow  It will have some distance but she wants accuracy. If she does a mile with the tape she wants her device to read a mile. That's not going to happen

Ignore the tape, I walk indoors around the room and I get exercise.
Regardless of you doubting Thomas’s I am getting steps/miles and I have
lost 18.5 pounds doing this. Makes me sorry I even asked the question.
