I've been part of the 70's and Steady and 1943 Birth Year forums and suddenly they aren't there. It's only help and fitness forums. Have they been eliminated? It's also been some time since I've been able to write messages to people.

Do you mean the "Activity Groups" you get to via the web dashboard? If so, then, yes they have been closed. You can see fitbit's comments and the ensuing discussion at https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/Activity-Groups-have-been-closed/td-p/3530306
