@cookarn  For someone wearing a torso tracker like a One, I personally think it depends on how many time zones you are traveling, how long you will be gone, app tracking (MobileRun), sleep tracking, and how "vested" you are in steps matching the exact time they were taken.

Time zone shifts can cause data loss.  Your Fitbit puts everything into a 24 hour day -- even if your travel just gave you a 27 hour day.  Or a 21 hour day.

If your use is just plain counting steps, I don't think it is necessary.  Your activity graph might record you as walking when you are not, but you get the data you want.  But if you track and log activities, you want them to match.

@cookarn Welcome to the Fitbit family! If you are traveling and you want to prevent data loss, do the following regarding the time zone:

  • From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon.
  • Tap Advanced Settings.
  • Under Time Zone, turn off the Set Automatically option.
  • Tap Time Zone and select the correct time zone.

Now, here are some tips for traveling with your Fitbit tracker:

  • It is safe to take all Fitbit trackers through airport security. The scanning machine will not damage your tracker.
  • Contact your airline to determine if Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) can be used during the flight. Your tracker uses Bluetooth Low Energy, which should be considered safe for most airlines.
  • For charging purposes, we recommend plugging your charging cable into a USB port on your computer or other low-energy device. If necessary, you can use a UL-certified USB wall charger.
  • Your tracker store up to 7 days of detailed minute-by-minute data. If you wait longer than 7 days before syncing, you may only see the most recent week's detailed data.
  • Summary data (calories, distance, steps, and floors) will be stored for 30 days.

Hope this helps. Have a nice trip! Smiley Very Happy
