Steps appear on dashboard but are lower in challenge

Three out of five of my last goal days, I made my step goal of 9,000. But it only showed ~ 7700 steps. I've made my goal every day since May 15 actually. I started all the challenges. I'm on Eastern time although some of the people were in the pacific time zone.

This can happen if the challenge creator is in a different time zone as the challenge runs from midnight to midnight in their time zone. There's more information here:

Were any of your steps from manually logged activities, use of 3rd party apps or use of your phone's GPS tracking? If so, these don't count towards challenges, only those directly tracked by your fitbit count.
