burnt calories don't add up?

yesterday i did 4675steps walking around shops and house, 2 miles worth , and burnt just under 1700 cals , but today i have just been on a 3 mile brisk walk and did just over 7000 steps and it registered that i did 56 active minutes but my total burnt calories now is just over 1200??? i know half of those calories are burnt by being alive so i really only burnt about 400-500 calories! so how one day doing not much burn more calories than a brisk 3mile walk?

Hi, @Claire22, although walking is an excellent exercise, the overwhelming majority of the calories you burn are simply from being alive.  In order to compare one day's steps and activities to another you will need to wait until the following day so that you are comparing a full day to a full day, rather than a full day to part of a day.

thanks for your reply , i did compare yesterday stats to the day before yesterday stats & they are pretty similar except for the miles i did , so i thought that when i went for a unusual to normal routine 3 mile walk yesterday i would burn a lot more calories than a usual day?

I would expect you to have burned some more calories on a day you did a 3 mile walk compared to a day when you did not, but not a lot.
