Calories Burned - Cardio Heart Rate vs Peak Heart Rate

During two periods of exercise of exactly the same length and activity, I burned more calories during a workout at 47% peak vs a workout at 74% peak. Is this because one burns more calories in the cardio heart rate zone than in the peak heart rate zone?

It's nice to see you around the Community @KatrinaBWoman Very Happy Let's clarify that peak zone means your heart rate is greater than 85% of maximum, is the high-intensity exercise zone. The peak zone is for short intense sessions that improve performance and speed. Now, cardio zone means your heart rate is 70 to 84% of maximum, is the medium-to-high intensity exercise zone. In this zone, you're pushing yourself but not straining. For most people, this is the exercise zone to target.

Said that, I'd recommend checking this post to see how the calories work along your heart rate and exercises. Woman Very Happy

Generally, you will burn more calories in the peak zone as opposed to doing Cardio. But doing or exercising in the cardio means that you can exercise longer in that zone, and burn just as much calories there than in the peak. Therefore, if you are more into long workout of 45 minutes or longer then Cardio is the way to go, but if you want to burn lots of calories but don't have the time then exercising in the peak zone for 20 or 30 minutes at a time is the way to go. And Fitbit is just a rough guideline, not meant to be taken too seriously.
