Charge 3 black screen

My charge 3 screen has gone blank. I've charged it, rebooted it so many times and removed it from the app. I now can't reconnect to it because I can't see the PIN code, so frustrating!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @LesleyFoulsham.

Thank you for informing us about the difficulties you experienced with your Fitbit Charge 3 and for the troubleshooting steps you’ve performed.

In this case, I would recommend performing a long restart:

  1. Connect the device to the charging cable.
  2. While the device is plugged into the charging cable, press and hold the button down for 15 seconds.
  3. The device turns on and shows a battery icon. Two vibrations occur: first a short vibration, then a medium vibration.
  4. The device turns off.
  5. The device turns on and shows a progress bar and short vibrations occur. The progress bar completes. Note: A total of 7 short vibrations occur.
  6. Remove the device from the charging cable. The device shuts down.
  7. Important: Plug the device into the charging cable again.

If your screen still doesn't turn on, the best way to get help for this problem is to chat with us online or give us a call. Please click here to get connected.

Have a nice day.

My screen started going blank and I have tried suggestions on here plugging in and turning on/off.  Except for vibrations i have no idea what it is doing.  It still tracks, vibrates and can view on my phone but nothing except black screen.  My charge 3 is 3 years old.  Any other help?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @YVONNE_D.

In addition to the long restart, you can perform a regular restart

You can also try to change the clock face on your Fitbit device by following these instructions.

Hope this helps.

I have the exact same problem with mine.  I have done all the checks as best as I can, the blank screen doesn’t help.  I don’t get the 7 vibrations nor some of the others.  Still works in downloading the info to the app, however I now have to forget and re-enable Bluetooth to sync.  I have given up with thinking that this issue can be resolved so my question is if I buy the Charge 5 will I have a similar issue 2 years down the line?  Should I look at going for another brand?

Mine started having problems with screen disappearing after 2 1/2 years. Then totally black/blank with nothing.  It does vibrate and record data on my app still.  Nothing like wearing a watch you can't tell time on.  Must be it is something about only lasting 2 years...I really liked it but am disappointed.Sent from my Galaxy

It's great to see you in the Fitbit Community, @ChrisHS.

Thank you for your interest in the Fitbit Charge 5.

I would like to mention that many users have had their Fitbit devices for several years without any problem.

Thank you for your response however I must point out that there seems to be quite a few users whose Fitbits seem to die at around 2-2.5 years. Is this built in obsolescence or just bad luck on some peoples part? My point is that if only from an environmental point of view this cannot be good. My question was hypothetical in that is this going to happen to the Charge 5 after 2 -2.5 years as well? I fear that they maybe the case.

The warranty period should be longer- I got my Charge 3 fully wet for the first time today and it literally just entirely crapped out. I’ve never been so disappointed- the products aren’t cheap and nobody should have to replace a faulty product that doesn’t even do what it’s marketed as.

I’m having the same problem. Did you get your issue resolved?

How can you see that it has restarted when the screen is black? When I put it in the charger it vibrated twice, I held the button for 15 seconds and nothing happened, no vibration, no image on the screen, nothing… just plain black!! Ready to throw it out the window!!

Did that, too. The only way I can tell that the clock face has changed is by seeing it in the app. Grrr

That sounds like the phone companies… always wanting you to buy a new phone!!

Does the button on the side of your fitbit work? When I try press mine to restart/reboot the device, it doesn't do anything- no vibration, no display even after trying to connect it to charger. 💀
