GPS varies when I go the same route and is off considerably. I found the below but the link doesn't work and when I search, I can't find this. How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?.

It's great to see you around, @BeckySully.

I am sorry for the delay in response and appreciate all the efforts in trying to fix this distance issue.

Fitbit devices calculate distance based on the device’s accelerometer data and stride length setting.

Default stride length is based on your height and gender. If available, Fitbit devices use GPS data to calculate more precise distances. When you sync your device, our algorithm interprets the data from the device, and you see your distance traveled in the Fitbit app.

Note that when you track an exercise with GPS, both GPS and accelerometer data are used to calculate the distance shown in the Fitbit app. For more information about accuracy, check the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?.

Let me know the outcome. 🙂

My fitbit has been off for 5 months. When I first got it, it seemed to work fine. I then started noticing that I started getting less steps with the same walking route (about 40 minutes). My husband started joining me on occasion and he would get 2,000 steps or more than I did and I am shorter and take more steps. I increased my route and walked about 1 hour+ and I was getting less steps than when I had walked for about 40 minutes. I tried changing my stride length to several different lengths - didn't help. The last 2 months it has become even worse. Finally after several calls into Fitbit Customer Service, they sent me a new one. I was so excited that the new one would solve all of the issues. WRONG! Yesterday I walked for 1 hour 10 minutes and my steps were the same as the day before on the exact same route with the old watch. Today I wore my husband's watch and mine together and came back with 7,060 steps on my watch and his was 12,367. This afternoon after spending 32 minutes on hold waiting for a customer rep to answer and 40 minutes of talking with him explaining the issue, the only thing we changed was  "Clear User Data" on the new watch. I really don't think that's going to help because the data was cleared two days ago when I received it new. The rep also told me to return the watch and they would send a new one again. I don't think that will help either!  Please HELP!!!!  Thank you.

I hope they get this worked out, I haven’t had a successful response to my distance issues.

My height and gender are in the app and I can’t locate “adjust stride” even though research in Fitbit says there is a way and a link but the link doesn’t work. I’m still waiting for a solution.

Becky, I can change my stride length by using the app on my phone.  Click on your account up at the top left (circle with your photo). Then scroll down to Settings. Choose Advanced Settings and then Stride Length. Take it off automatic. I currently have mine set on automatic, but it doesn't matter if I put in 15 inches or 20 inches. I'm still losing steps every day.

Just wanted to continue with my dilemma.  The "Clear User Data" on the watch did NOT solve the issue as I knew that it wouldn't.
