Charge 3 screen too dim

My Charge 3 screen is excessively dim, even with a full charge.  I've tried restarting it with no result. It will occasionally come on bright but after a few seconds it's dim again and I can't get it back. This is indoors and is still difficult to read. Outside with any amount of sunlight, it's impossible to read.

I bought a Samsung Active. $150. Sad to leave Fitbit since I've had one since they first came out.

Unfortunately it is done. Mine works fine but has no display at all.
Fitbit are not going to fix it, and have the Fitbit 4 out now which looks
the same sf thr 3 but may have been fixed?. However it may not last like
mine, After 2 years the display was gone, probably by design. I have given
up dealing with their support, and will buy another brand when I get around
to it.
Its a shame since this was my third Fitbit, and I liked it a lot, but no
enough to waste more money on something that will only last between 6
months and 2 years.
Good luck.

Agree. As there is no any FitBit responses to help with defected product, I can't wait to try Wyze Band. $25 only, and if any issue, I don't care buying new one once a year - compare to $150 for Charge 3 which stays for 14 months.
hello, FitBit, it would be nice to hear back from you

I have just started couch to 5k but sadly while outside I can’t see my screen. Tried fully charging it. Indoors it’s fine. Setting is normal which looks like the brightest. Anyway I can change this would be good to see my pace Heidi 🙂

Yes it’s quite annoying and there are various views that it is a hardware or software problem. Contact Fitbit directly and see if you can get a replacement.

If your Fitbit is still under warranty get it replaced now. This is the beginning of the end for your device. Once mine started having that issue it never improved.

Hi to All who Posted on this issue . I have had this issue for quite some time and made an early post re the matter. So many have had the same issue and are angry, which I sympathise with. I made contact with Fitbit about a week or two ago and they have replaced my unit free of charge. I have had the original since November of 2018 - so it was out of warranty. I did have the offer of 50% off the Charge 4 but wanted to see if this new one would work over time, so went for the free replacement of the Charge 3.  And I didn't want to spend more money on Fitbit if the next one was also unreliable. Also I live in Australia which has very clear laws about an item being '"fit for purpose" even if it is out of the warranty period (not being able to see a watch outside would make it not fit for purpose), so I would have had a case with the Government department Çonsumer Affairs. And if merchants don't comply with requirements then they can be banned from selling their products in the country. So not sure if it was that or not but well worth pursuing directly with Fitbit. Good luck everybody

I live in the US and Fitbit offered me 25% off a new Fitbit because mine was bought 10/2018.  I'm don't know what you did or said to them that they replaced yours but good for you. I'm very disappointed in the company. I've had a Fitbit for at least 7 years and probably longer than that. The fact they don't seem to acknowledge that the screen issue is a pervasive problem is disappointing. If it's a hardware problem admit it and come up with a plan to fix it. Sadly I'm leaving the Fitbit family. I now have a Samsung active watch. Same cost and it will hopefully last longer than 18 months that my Fitbit charge 3 did.

totally agree. How can I adjust in settings when I can't see anything. The screen is totally black

Best Answer

Exactly you can't. Does mine still count steps, yes. Can I start and stop an activity from my device, no. I can from the app and I did that for a couple of weeks. But I shouldn't have to. I am very happy with my Samsung Active watch so far. I didn't get the Samsung Active 2, I bought the first one which is currently $150.

Thank you for your reply.  I’ve given up on my Fitbit, it has had a good life. I’m not going to purchase anything for awhile. If I keep doing basically what I m doing now I’ll keep fit.

Had the same problem and feel the same way!

I have the Wyze band and it's ok but it still has some bugs that make it hard to use has a daily wear. The software portal works but is also in need of improvements.  On the bright side the screen is color, bright and easy to read.

If you can't read it outside, I would guess within two weeks you won't be able to read it even if you are standing in a totally dark walk-in closet in your home.  That is what happened to mine.

That’s what happened.  I have had it for a long time but I would’ve preferred it to die totally. On the bright side I be ordered an Apple Watch

I finally took the plunge last week and bought an Apple Series 3 38MM watch and have absolutely NO regrets. If you're using an Apple phone it's the only way to go. Either the Charge 3 is overpriced or the series 3 is a great bargain. There is no comparison between the two devices. Hope this helps.
