Charge 3 stuck on smiley face

While visiting overseas, I could not get my Fitbit to work. It started buzzing one night while I was trying to get to sleep so I stopped wearing it and removed the app in the hopes that in the morning I could figure it out and reset it. I am having problems setting it back up again. I can get the smiley face when I press it for eight seconds. The Fitbit is detected but screen is blank and no code shows up. I have tried a long reset holding it for 15 seconds. Turning on and off Bluetooth, turning on and off my phone. Still it will not reset. when charging I do not see a battery icon . I can only get a smiley face but the rest of the time the screen is black no reset bar either when I press for 15 seconds my Fitbit is out of warranty. Please advise what other options I can try.

Hi there, @Callie62. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Charge 3 before reaching out.

As a first approach, I'd recommend leaving your Fitbit device charging at least 1 hour. Then, please check if your Charge 3 is displaying anything than the smiley face. If the smiley face has gone, let's try to restart your tracker once by following these steps:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.
  5. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.

If the above doesn't work, try the steps below:

  • Unpair the Fitbit Charge 3 from the phone's Bluetooth and also make sure it's no longer connect to the Fitbit app.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth.
  • Shut off the phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth.
  • Set up the Fitbit Charge 3 again.
  • If there is no connection, restart the Fitbit Charge 3.

If you can't get started with the Fitbit Charge 3, usually a missing requirement is the cause. Carefully review the requirements provided in the help article Why can't I set up my Fitbit device?

Hope that helps.

None of the above suggestions work. I still only get the smiley face but not a battery icon or anything else. The app says it recognizes the Fitbit but no code shows up on the screen and it’s black. I’m really missing my Fitbit to track my walking. What’s the next step?
