Charge 3 won't charge

My Fitbit which is less than a year old suddenly started to get hot when charging.  I had a low battery message, plugged it in, got smiley face and left it.  I picked it up about half an hour later and it was very hot.  I unplugged it and nothing works.  Black screen   I am using the original charging cable and there isn't a fault with the socket.  Has anyone else had the same problem?  I plugged it in again 2 days later ..screen came on for about 5 minutes and went off again.  Have messaged fit it about 6 days ago but haven't received a reply!
