Hi, I am trying to set up Charge 4 for my kid who got the watch for Xmas. Is there and option to set it up under a family account? The only options on the menu is ace and ace 3. I also tried using is on email but because it is an under 13 email Fitbit app will not allow it . Not sure why there is a limit.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Braznik14 and @leeannjake.

@leeannjake If your granddaughter is 13 years old (and if she is located in the US), she can create a regular Fitbit account and setup her Charge 4 as instructed here.

@Braznik14 Your feedback is appreciated, Fitbit is always working to improve its products and services provided. Fitbit, same as other companies, must comply with Child Online Protection Act (COPA) regulations. For that reason it's not possible to create a regular account for your kid, and Charge 4 can only be setup under a regular account since it's not intended for kids.

Thanks for stopping by, see you around.

Sorry but yes, children under 13 are only allowed in family account, and with Ace or Ace 2.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Just gave all 4 of my kids Charge 4 Fitbits for Christmas.  This is ridiculous that I can't set up their sync to each of their phones.  VERY poor planning.  Really unhappy about this.

Hi @ComputerDoc. Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts about the Charge 4. Let me explain that our Terms of Service don't allow members who are under the minimum age to create standard Fitbit accounts. That's why we have the Fitbit family account which allows you to control who your kids connect with in the Fitbit app when setting up an Ace or Ace 2, which were designed for children under 13 years old. I understand where you're coming from and please know that our team continues working on our devices and services to enhance your experience with them. You can also take a look to this request posted in the Feature Suggestions board and add your vote so it can get the attention of our developers.

I do agree with ComputerDoc. It is rediculous and should have have been highlighted.

I find the response very dismissive

Any chance you all are getting ready to release an update so I could add a Charge 4 for my 8 year old?  If not no worries I will setup an account as though he is over 13 so I can use it for him.  That is unless you are about to release the afore mentioned update.

Hi @phasterok. Welcome on board.

Thanks for your interest in our Charge 4 for your son. As mentioned above, only the Ace series trackers can be setup in a child account as those were designed for children under 13 years old. I appreciate your feedback and rest assured it won't go unnoticed. If you've not done so, please click the thumbs up to vote for this request posted in the Feature Suggestions board so our developers can take it into consideration for new updates or product development.

If you want to create an account for your child, please consider our newest Fitbit Ace 3 which comes in different colors and includes incredible features to encourage kids to be more active and build healthy habits with their families.

This is such poor product support.  I got my kid a charge4 and can't even set it up for her!  What a ridiculous set of complete shenanigans...  I guess I have to go Apple instead.

Why would I want to buy a different product when I already have the Charge 4 for him, that suggestion makes no sense at all.  No worries though I figured out a way around the Fitbit program that will allow you to have it for someone below the age of 13.  No offense to you LizzyFitbit, but the product should be open so I could add my child with any device; however there are restrictions upon what they can do in the program, i.e. purchases they can make, etc.  Though having the Ace is a nice option if I have a fully functional Charge 4 in addition to the device I use and my son is the only one wanting to use it to go on walks with me then I am not going to buy a third device just so one I won in a competition can go unused.  If I were to do such a thing it would be improper use of money.

Just offered a Charge 4 to my kid and trying to setup this and found this thread.

What a poor customer feedback with no brand accountability.

I selected that specific product and I'm now unable to set it up for my kid because the brand unilaterally decided that this device is not for a kid.

Do I need to sell it right now and purchase another brand or will you just update your app so I can select this product I bought giving my money to your brand ?

Unless you have a correct feedback to provide, please spare us the time to read your useless excuses.

Just want to add that those limitations should have been visible in the product description BEFORE I bought it...

Do you allow a complete refund ?

This is an attempt to push a product that we dont want or need.  Instead, all it does is force us to create false accounts for out kids. Off to do that now....thanks.

You're right. This is incredibly stupid. I get my kids a nice water proof expensive product and I have to make FAKE ACCOUNTS for them. Stupid and arbitrary and also stupid.

Very unhappy.

Part of the blame should be put onto the various countries with their online child protection acts that fitbit has to adhere to. Here is info on the US COPA

I can understand that complying with all country specific child protection laws may be difficult and I do not blame the brand for that. What I blame them is that they do "forget" to clearly state this on the product page. Putting a flag like "not compatible with child account" is not a big challenge if you want to inform your clients.

They use to put a note on the box with the minimum age. I do not see such a note on the Luxe.

There is a link to the terms of service at the bottom of each page.

I bought a charge 4 from their store and they did not mentioned anything about this on the product page nor the checkout flow.

TOS doesn't mention anything related to kid or child.

I finally created a standard account for my child and that's it but I can't benefit from the parent/child features.

My goal is more for them to learn and improve their product page. Unless their goal is to not to this as this could be a barrier for future sales.

Im also annoyed abt this. The Aces aren’t suitable for my kid’s competitive swimming. Got him a charge 4 and now can’t set it up.
this should be resolved.

I just purchased a Charge 4 for my granddaughter's 13th birthday. I'm attempting to set her device up now - but like others, am only getting the option for the Ace devices. Once my granddaughter turns 13 will I be able to set up the Charge 4?
