Charge 4 vibrates but screen is black

Right! I’ve been putting off making this post for months hoping it would fix it self..

the problem started July 20th with the device losing time every night. After trying all tips written in this forum, I removed the tracker from my account. Then being unable to set it up again. The device started freezing inconsistently at various times. Error 001 was displayed. Now all I get is a black screen. The device still vibrates “normally” when on charger. Not sure what firmware I have, but I do remember getting one only days before the problems started. Hope I get help with this expensive(for me) piece of jewelry.

Hi @Axxitan. Welcome to the Community Forums. @Gr4ndp4, thanks for the heads up!

@Axxitan, thanks for sharing detailed information about your Charge 4 and the steps tried to get it working correctly. I'm sorry that the screen is now black and because it's still able to vibrate, I know if you've tried restarting it? What is the error message displayed when trying the set up process? Also, may I know the model and OS/software version of your phone? These details will help me to investigate on my end and help you out.

I look forward to your response.

I have an iPhone 11, latest versjon. Also tried to set it up via old iPhone 6, and iPad to no avail. The app doesn’t find the tracker at all on any of the devices. And I’ve tried to restart the device countless times. Phone and Bluetooth also. Tired to turn off or shield any other devices that uses Bluetooth. As I said in op, I already tried every tip ever written on this forum to getting it working again. I tried again today to set up but after a while after disconnecting power, but charger still connected to the charger, the display appears frozen, (partially icon) and the number 001 beneath.

I have a similar situation, updated the software a day or two ago.  Now the screen does not work.  It vibrates when I push the button.  It still communicates step, pulse, etc to my iPhone.  Any thoughts?

Hi, @brucevp123 welcome, you might notice this thread is nearly 2 years old, time moves on. You do not mention how long you have had your Charge 4. Can you please provide more information on the software update - is this the app on your phone or an update to the Charge 4?

Cheers

My Charge 4 is about 3 years old and the symptoms were about the same, so thought I'd follow this string.  The software updated about 3 days ago.  I can't see what version it is since the watch screen does not work, it is black.  The app on the phone still works.  It still communicates with the watch, i.e. counts steps, monitors pulse, etc).  Yesterday the watch vibrated when I pushed the button, today, after charging all night, nothing happens when I push the button.  Any suggestions.  Thanks

Hi, @brucevp123, As your phone is talking to your charge 4 open the Fitbit app & sync by sliding your finger down the "Today" screen & release, note the value next to the battery Icon. If the State of Charge is depleted try & work out why it's not charging Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?  provides guidance and advice. If you touch your icon in the top left of the today screen and then the Charge 4 tile the software version is in the top line. To determine the software version of the Fitbit app on the same screen touch "Help & Support" to discover the current software version you are on (I have 3.65.1(36567071)

I hope this helps but please post here again if you are still stuck.

Cheers

My Charge 2 did this.  It was bricked.  As I’d had it longer than one year, Fitbit gave me a heavy discount (35%) off a new device, which in fact matched the current sale price locally as the Charge 4 has been out for years now, but I thought probably easiest with ongoing support to get it from Fitbit.

You need to contact support, they will establish if your device can be fixed or not by following the steps they tell you.  The batteries unfortunately are the weak point of the device, only lasting 1-4 years apparently.  They’re not (easily) replaceable, although having said that I did replace my iPhone battery when it failed after 4 years, I have seen replacement Fitbit batteries online and I did seriously consider it for my Charge 2.
